Myself and Derfel Cadarn have been working on a total conversion of the Viking Invasion campaign (although no new graphics will be added as yet). This mod changes the Viking-era campaign into a campaign set in the British Isles in the period spanning 1260-1518. The playable factions are the English, the Barons, the Welsh, and the Scots, although the Irish, the Norse, and the two Marcher Lordships are minor factions (which the player can enable, but no background information/difficulty rating is provided for them.

New units will include Northumbrian Spearmen, Welsh Longbowmen, Scottish Pikemen, Scottish Light Cavalry, Baronial Men-at-Arms, and many more. The starting situations are very diverse, from the sprawling yet easily fragmented English kingdom to the relatively secure yet poor Scottish provinces. The buildings and units will be a reasonable mix of the Viking and main campaign ones, and there will be a fair proportion of later-era units added (such as 15th-century light cavalry of some sort to combat the more effective Arquebusiers).

The Early, High, and Late periods are also radically altered for this campaign, leading to a more interesting and fluid play.

Work is progressing nicely, and we should have a playable version soon, with a modded campaign map graphic (with more up-to-date names) following soon after.

You dont by any chance play Battlefield 1942? That is a great game, totally different from MTW, but since you named it Battlefield Britian, I was wondering if you played it. I love it.

Yes, I've got it, and we both like it, but the name was made up by Derfel long before he played Battlefield 1942.

On-topic posts next? http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif

We have run into one snag. The events for the main campaign (all-Europe) still show up for our map, as it covers part of the same timespan. These events crash the game, and we were wondering if it is possible to remove the link for these, or if there is any way to disable them. Any takers?

Any help would be appreciated, in fixing the events problem. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

They weren't acting in a unpolite manner, hence the wink at the end.

NagatsukaShumi {I'll go out on a limb here and assume Naga' is a STW fan http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif} is correct . With a handle like Lancer6969 you should expect many folk to assume you are of jesting nature and prone to both being flipant and taking facious comments lightly if they are given as such concidering your chosen handle is a double entondra {has obvious double meaning of racy/sexual nature} .

He didn't mean anything nasty http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wave.gif http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/pat.gif .
Many players are either young {thus don't yet have the social experience to grasp every connotation intended in a communication} or do not possess full fluency in enlish {same effect} and this compounds on the quandry of written communication being incapable of conveying the degree of meaning that tone of voice can and so we make judicious use of "smiley faces" to stand in for vocal inflections ect http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

[SouthparkSadamVoiceOn]Relax guy , take a break , look over there[SouthParkSadamVoiceOff] http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/joker.gif

Edit for possible/suggested solution to title question/quandry {verbose , aren't I http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif} : Though this might grate on the artistic senses , try changing the dates to say 1000 years later or earlier , including the dates each era begins on . Gunpowder should still work if you change the requirements for all involved {in building foudries etc} from requiring the "invention" of gunpowder {which I believe is a hard coded date like the other events} to being entirely era specific .
As I understand it , the events are hard coded which might require such a measure as I have suggested to get around .
Hope you find your solution http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

Thanks for the help and the backup, folks. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

Changing the years to being 1000 years earlier/later may be the only solution, but if there are any other possible ways of getting round the events, then we'll take them first.

There are two different people chatting with my name, me and my second existence. My second existence is a very frustrated programmer and and very tired. So I am sorry for my immature comments to Mechstra. I always do this, I never understand what people are typing. Sorry guys.

ok guys, im curious if you want a lukmap i already made of england, using up a lot of different areas (the full number of provs in MTW squeezed onto england and some of france)

Mechstra

That would be quite nice, but the mod encompasses all of the British Isles, not just England.

When do you expect this great mod to be completed?

Mechstra

As mentioned, we're having serious problems with the historical events.

At the moment, only the English side works with them. All other factions crash the game when an event that features specific provinces/factions appears.

You might want to check out Barocca's thread on "Adding an expansion to VI" , here in the dungeon he states he has found a way to avoid the hardcoded events, by duplicating only the basic file structure of VI and then add his own bits to make a seperate expansion of sorts. Check it out. LOS

3 new units have been created for the Scots thus far:

Scottish Light Cavalry: fast, very good attack, good morale. Good anti-archer cavalry, can't stand up to knights in a straight fight. Unit size 40.

Scottish Pikemen: Excellent defence, good attack, Irresistable charge, disciplined, slow-moving, armoured good morale, expensive, first 4 ranks can attack. Unit size 100. Will only be trainable in the lowland provinces of Scotland.

Scottish Archers: Armed with shortbows, good morale, good defence, weak attack, expensive. Unit size 40.

http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif I dont know if this helps you but just move the startpos files for each campaign. From campmap/startpos. Remove the Early/High/Late files and put them in a different folder for safe keeping otherwise you will lose all the medieval game Well it wont be playable anymore
Hope that solves it, otherwise if you can supply a list of the changes you have made to files and I can try and help to see where things may have gone wrong??

The files we altered in startpos are fine, as are the duplicates of regionspecific and vikingheroes that we made.

The problem lies in something we have yet to alter, and may not be alterable.

I'll try moving out the files, but I expect no real results, because the events aren't an optional field in the startpos files, but something hardcoded. Or so it seems.

NagatsukaShumi

It may be possible to simply delete the events from the Events.txt, something you should probably atleast give a try.

Mechstra

Yes, that's true.

The only problem is, we don't want to overwrite anything to do with the main campaign. We were going to have it sit side-by-side with the Viking campaign too, without overwriting anything (like in names.txt), if at all possible.

I'm not really the campaign-editing guy, that's Derfel; I'm the unit-maker, although I can create the campaign at a push. Right now, I'm concentrating on the new units for the campaign. That way, even if we don't manage to get the campaign itself running, we can release a unit pack for the main MTW campaign, making the English or whoever owns the British Isles insanely overpowered, of course. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif
