it's been a while since there's been any major complaints in the MH over historical accuracy in MTW. that tends to be weeded out within the first three months of a games release. but every so often someone posts that vikings didn't have horned helmets and all the Org veterans have to tell then that subject is teh old and we all move forward.

i wonder why the subject of historical accuracy and the game is being brought up again?

Shahed
07-28-2003, 17:20
Well for me that subject is closed. I think it is clear to most observers how far the game is from being historically accurate. It is however a GREAT GAME, and i still LOVE CA http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/tongue.gif

The problem is that too many historians in the "west" have aired their views on medieval history, while not enough from the "east" have done so. Therefore most have a lot of, what are clear flasehoods, about specially Muslim units e.g all Muslim forces were unarmored, all Sipahi were bow armed etc..

There are some instances of good representation, e.g Khwarazmian Cavalry, although I don't think that these cavalrymen specifically served the Turks or not, they did exist as a formidable class of their own, under Khwarazen Shah. But still the Euro forces are just too UBAH when you compare the two. It makes no sense to anyone who has read and heard views from both east and west.

Lastly and I hope mods don't take this as an insult. I think Kanuni's post entitled "Not an insult, just an OPINION" should be a sticky in the Entrance Hall. This is a toic that can be discussed for some months to come and probably will. Would someone sticky it please.

Whoa, bud. I think you are mistaking honest frustration for complaining. Med:TW VI is the only game I've played pretty much since December. I've praised this game over and over for the replay value and depth. I have asked for a patch to fix some of the problems that make a great game from being an all-time classic. If the game wasn't great, I wouldn't waste my time.

So what if I didn't say over and over, "oh, thank you, CA, for giving me such a wonderful game"? I paid 70 bucks to them. Anybody gives me money, I take that as thank you.

Gimme a break. Have you told your parents, today?, yesterday?, last week?, over and over thank you for food, shelter and clothing? If so, you are the first teenager to do so, since "please, thank you, sir, and ma'am" went out of fashion.

In the old days, you'd be called a troll. Not that I would ever do such a thing. If you're so pleased, send CA an email.

Sorry, guys, but I don't need lessons from anyone not in danger of being dead by the time he's 56.

Well I also thank CA for the game, as they have made a wonderful game and I still did not lose interest especially in MP eventhough months have passed.

BUT

IMO the customer support has been really awful and I must say I have not met this bad customer support in all my life. We all know about the bugs in VI, no need to repeat them here. There has been very much cry outs for both the bugs in SP and MP and until a week ago noone seemed to EVEN CARE. But now they announce a small patch. This small word worries me as I think they might only fix the major bug in SP; the 56 year bug.

But I still have not lost hope, I hope that this small bug means they will fix the few MAJOR bugs in MP and SP and leave the many minor bugs such as scroll lock in the MP foyer.

As a result, eventhough I think this patch is quite late (we still don't even know its release date), I will forgive CA if ALL major bugs are fixed (for ex: 56 year bug for SP, swipe bug for MP). I'll forgive them simply because this game is great.

Well if they don't fix major bugs, I'll still think the game is good, but because of poor customer support I will not buy CA products again. And I'm sure many people will do the same as me.

You know, they will not remain to be a monopoly for this kind of game concept and in the future other companies will publish similiar games. And if CA doesn't care us, why should I choose them? Sorry but if this patch don't meet people's expectations it meens CA don't care us

I wnat to buy CA's games. It's a kind of infantile infaturation perhaps, becuase of first love: Shogun Total War. However when I think about it maturely, I must say that there has not been much enthusiasm for fixing screw ups in MTW. The most often qouted respose has been:

-we don't have the money, maybe
-we don't have the time, maybe
-the bug exists due to xyz reason
-silence
-silence
-silence
-we even had this response: "NO PATCH"

I think this kind of public relations techniques also went out of style a long time ago. The companies still practicing this kind of marketing hmm well I hope CA is not like that. I think I probably was one of the first people to pre-order RTW. However when I saw these responses i cancelled my order. I recently re-ordered it again, but I am really wary now.

Basically what happened with MTW is I bought the game, spent endless hours struggling with the bugs. Got a steady stream of negative answers on the subject. Bought VI and it just got worse. So for RTW i have no expectations, I only play MTW MP coz of some friends otherwise, forget it.

I know also that some people from CA probably hate posts like the above.

I apologise but I prefer to speak the truth and let them hate me. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

Naturally I am happy to hear about the patch, but really it's very late. As my Corporate Finance Prof used to tell me:

"Well, better too late than never"

http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

I am not putting this down but it sure took long enough. After your clients have been waiting this long, and then the get the news. I would expect that they either are very happy, or they are simply wondering what exactly took so long.

In either case the clients were rightfully cheesed off with this issue.

You know what is the cool thing about fans ?

It's that they really want to be all praise for their artists. Our artists are you CA, so give us a reason. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/pat.gif http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/flirt.gif http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

Ohhhh, I've already numerous times given my thanks in the forum and more importanly, I've thanked them several times with my cold hard cash

I hope that "individually", the members of The Creative Assembly have been "thanked" similarly.

Old Bald Guy, there's an "old" guy who frequents the ....pc.strategic.games newsgroup, is that you by chance?

BTW, just for the record, a couple of OBG's threads must have been missed caused he (on more than one occaison I believe) has given his praises in more than one of his threads.

OH Lest I neglect, CA if you're listening...:

...and, yes, I did mean to SHOUT

I think my first posting on cspigs was in '92 as ZDBOP. I used that screen name for a decade. If the person to whom you are referring to is who I think he is, I am NOT he, although that last post sure could have been one of his. hehe

I wasn't so old or so bald when I first began posting on the Internet. Ah, newsgroups, now that was where you learned how to flame. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/cool.gif

To be on topic: CA knows how we feel about their game, and I have the feeling they went to bat for their game and for us. I'll show our appreciation by further supporting the best strat game I've played since Civ2. Half Life, now that's another story. Talk about support

SeljukSinan, your frustration is obvious and quite understandable. It's unfortunate that all we can do at this point is hope. I don't want to come off sounded pestimistic here, but I'm really beginning to think, judging by the last few years, the whole industry is going to hell. It makes improvements in some areas, but doubles back in others.

Besides, I don't think it's appropiate to give praise when we haven't got the patch yet. For all we know, this could get fixed, but that gets broken, and so on we go again.

Least we forget, we are customers awaiting a correction of a damaged product, not the coming of the messiah.

Hi,

just wanted to point out that MTW is far from historical accurate.

as an example, look at the vikings, they wear HORNS on their HELMETS http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/eek.gif

gah...

edit:

and wtf is up with your typing? can some mod please clean out the .'s with some 's ?
