Playing as the turks....

Well I finally decided to stick with a Turk early normal as my second time round in MTW (first time was Almos early easy...) I have made ok progress so far, the Byznatians are dead and the Egyptian only have Egypt left, I also hold most of the balkans and defeated 3 crusade (I wasn't even warned that the french launched on against me until it stormed into my province LOL...) also holds Kazzar and is pushing into the north...

But I have two major problem right now...

1. No one will ally with me or make peace with me: WTF? I mean if I was a faction crushed down to 1 province and I have a huge army hanging round me I would give everythign in the world for a peace deal... but why dose the stupid byzantian and egyptian don't hold any peace with me? and everyone choose them over me when we started fighting so I'm left with no allies... but they won't really with me even after I crush the Byz and Eggies into obilviant and instead launches numerous crusades at me.... this is a real bugger since that means I basically can't trade (espically since the Itatlians and Egyptians are both gunning for me... I can't trade with nither of them and have to constantly ward off their stupid navy that just keep comming :/.... this is making life very hard for me as no money = no expansion.

2.My Sultan.... : When I was the almos I almost never had a Kalif that's even average.... all of them were great.. even the chinless wonders had max influence and really high acument... but WTF my starting Sultan was pretty good but everything else I get after that is garbage (and even worse... garbage that inherit the throne in their early 20s....) and why do I have such low influence when I ahve one of the largest empire and development and army AND holds the largest city in europe http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/confused.gif I finally built up those garbage into half decent garbage by the time their almost 60.... and he gets himself killed with the Byzantian emperor in their final showdown LOL (two monarch dieing in teh same battle hehe) and now I get another 20 year old garbage........

Anyway as I was saying.... why do I have such a crappy line now... I never married forign princess as teh almos either.... (thus the chinless wonders http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/joker.gif ) but they were at least good.... these guys suck... and since I can't ally with anyone it's a even fatter chance that I'll get to marry a princess.... the funny thing is... the AI always seem to pick the worset or close to the worest heir as the new king... they don't go off picking the 7 star heir with at least 5 accument and dread... they go off picking the 2 star heir with 1 accument and 2 dread sheese.....

What should I do... I'm close to the high age now if I keep going like this I'll surely be crushed by the the GH if not then the much improved high age catholics:/

If you have a different heir who has better stats then get rid of your current king

just do a suicide mission with him or use an assassin.

I had considered those... but assainating a king is not easy and he is also a 2-3 star guy.. (that's about the best of his stats http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/joker.gif ) I have quiet a few heir and royal generals who are better than my current garbage... but the risk of civil war seems too great consider that I have so many strong royal generals who I usually send at different fronts (BAH I LOST A 9 dread 6 star royal general when I sent him to.... escort my king on his first trials in battle NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/mecry.gif oh well at least now ppl won't fall silent when he enters the room or see a guy who wears a permanent shroud anymore http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/rolleyes.gif

All my good royals are no long heir arrrgh.. though they are developing into kick ass generals...

Take that bad boy down; Egypt will shorten your frontier by two provinces not to mention will make you a lot of cash. The home provenices for the various factions are must haves since they are so rich.

Also remember this date with dread:1230. That is when the Golden Hord will show up with 30K worth of troops in Kazarstain and Armenia (and way to close to Rum). If you think a crusade is a pest,...

As for people screwing with your' trade; I think the Italians have that has an objective; control the Med trade. They do the same thing to me as the Byz but sooner or later the HRE or the French trash them. Also if you kill Egyptions, no Egyptions ships to attack yours'.

Also beware the Italians expanding into North Africa and gunning for Egypt.

im just now playing the turcs and had the exact same problem. all starts war with me, sending dozens of crusades sank my ships, and no money.

first i say finish of the egypts as quick as possible, try then to push as far as possible into the almos, thats what i did, but i stopped in morocco, so i could get the gold mines, my north war i stopped in kazaar and in northwest i settled for greece and bulgaria, or constantinople if you dont want to have to much units guarding.

after that i start building up the good units waiting for the horde to arrive and also i started to build jihads in 3 provinces so when the horde arrived i had close to 100 jihads, meaning: i had alot of troops to use but didnt need to pay for them, yet.

1230, the year before the horde arrived i moved south from kazaar letting the 10 000 of thousands of byz men conquer it, but also take the first hit from the horde the year after i send around 60 of jihads taking back kazaar and finighing of the horde, rest of jihads i used the year after that... only trouble is now that i go back 14 000+ gold each year, but what do i care http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif now i have men to take whole europe

Well since I like to role play a bit I don't quiet want to kill the other islamic factions that fast..... the Eggies are now neutral with me because we lost all border (I took palestine and arabia while sina went into rebellion and he only got egypt left) I COULD take Egypt if I want to but I acturally think it makes me more money to keep it like that... because that way I acturally got someone to trade to and since I border rebel province my south side is pretty safe (they got tons of murabin in that rebel province which is a real general killer if you not careful http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/mecry.gif The Egyptian try to take Sina back every 2-3 turn but they are sending 1 stack against 3 full stack of murabin and desrert archer and peasents... the rebel general is like 3 star so the eggies have been quiet unsuccessful so far....

From my experience as the almos... taking NA really isn't THAT worth the trouble... one of them is the poorest province in teh game, two of them have mines thats good but their farming still sucks and they got no trade so that only makes them a mediocer province... Morocco is ok but usually the almos will defend it quiet vigorously... not to meantion keeping the almos alive to check them spaniards seem helpful....

Right now I don't think any faction can give me real trouble... except for the fact that as meantioned I have bad royal line and very low income (acturally I have high income but also very high maintanice cost http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/rolleyes.gif ) I'm beating the crap out of the italian fleet but still can't expand much (arrrgh the Turk's position sucks for trade espically if you knock out both eggy and byz...)

On the topic of trade - what is the benefit of keeping Egypt under foreign control and trading with it vs taking it and trading with yourself? Here's the thing - it should be MORE profitable to trade with a province you own rather than a foreign province (you get the profit at both ends if you control both provinces?) - anyway, can anyone confirm the game result?

i.e. I have a trade route between Egypt and Antioch and control BOTH - surely this will be MORE profitable than owning just Antioch and trading with an allied Egypt?

You cannot trade with your own provinces via trade routes... only with neutral/allied factions.

There is of course some local trade that goes on within the province itself, but it is fairly limited.

But generaly I have found that holding a province such as Egypt is always a lot better than trying to trade with it. After all Egypt also has good farmland and is itself a fairly good province to own.

Well trade as a whole is one of the few areas I have issues with. You should be able to trade with any other province you aren't at war with (yours included) and the florins earned should be a function of distance.

So for example your ivory from egypt will make much more money in denmark than it will in the sinai. It is also kind of stupid that you actually get a lower income if you own 99% of the board than if you just take the rich provinces and trade with everyone. But since that part of the game is hard coded i guess there is no point in complaining. Lets just hope trade is better in RTW. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

the idea is supposed to be that there is no tax on internal/ domestic trade, ie there was no VAT

IN your position I think its better to leave egypt for the trade money - playing turks I have always done the same with the byz - take out there continental territory - no more borders - peace - treade with cyprus, crette and rhodes which are otherwise worthless anyway.

Th germans/ pope/ sicily will at some point smack the Italians so hang on. Also I would try to make serbia-bulgaria the front line as you get the command bonus from serbia.

Good luck with the mongols Use jihads from coastal provinces and make sure the sea route is open. THis only works for Khazar, for armenia keep a big army in Rum.

Egypt is better to own than not imho. Rich farmland and decent trade goods. If no one ever trades with you (unlikely) then you need rich farmland to generate income. If ppl start to trade with you at some point in the future (likely) you make very nice coin from Egypt's 2 trade goods.

Owning Egypt also makes defence of your holdings in the south very easy. If you control the sea, then you have a 1 province frontage-easy to defend http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

ps NA is the shortest route to Spain. Spain = very nice farmland+trade goods+iron. You be the desert king with the Turks, so why not march onward to Spain? http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif
