Does anyone have personal experience of using TFT screens for gaming? Are they as good as the traditional CRT?

You hear so much conflicting advice I just don't know if it is wies to get one for playing games. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/confused.gif

I have a TFT screen that I use when I want to take my PC around a mates house so we can swap files and have the odd TW game... After all 17' Monitors do take up a lot of room in the boot of my car

Generally they are nice, but you often have to manually set the display refresh rates on screen and in Direct X. They can be a bit of a handful if you don't know what your doing.

I say use them if you like to move your computer around a lot, but if you don't it may not be worth it.

Most of the time I use an ordinary monitor anyway.

Still the picture can be cool though http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

I have one, I find it fine. Bit of shadowing in quick fps games but you get used to it in a few minutes, the space you save is well worth it. The increase in picture quality is good too. I haven't found it hard to use at all - just plug it in and use as per a normal monitor.

I guess that means my GeForce 2 is just operating at a high refresh rate...

But my experience is that TFTs can be more temperamental with resolutions and refresh rates than normal screens. But they do have a good quality image, and can really save on space

I'll echo The_Emporer: TFT/flat screens take a bit more tweaking to get the best results...but those results rock.

If you go TFT, first rule: instruct everyone in the household, in a very stern voice: NEVER TOUCH THE SCREEN. Folks get used to touching CRT screens, asking What's that? or whatever. You can hurt TFT screens bad by that practice. And cover it with a towel or something when not in use, to reinforce the 'no touch' idea, and keep finiky cats from spraying or clawing it.

Rule 2: Invest in TFT cleaning cloths. J&R.com have several (look for 'laptop-friendly&#39http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif.

Thanks guys. Maybe I will go for CRT since I don't need to save space. I have heard good things about the Iiyama Pro 514 http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/tongue.gif
