Hi,
I have nearly finished quite a good historical mod for MTW/VI but I need to ask some questions regarding getting my Kings names to different for my factions for the early period. Everything else is working perfectly. I have created the Irish, the Welsh, the Scots, the Prussians, the People of Navarre, the Goths. All battles work fine no crashes etc....I just have not fathomed out what the numbers mean under setLeaderStartPos. And the Default heros etc....I have given them names but the Irish and the Welsh all have the same names for Kings I cannot seem to add new names to the list, and which files do I put them in? http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

Welcome to the Org LiamStack. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wave.gif Alas, I am not a modder, just a greeter. Have you searched/read any of the pinned topics in the Dungeon forum? There is a wealth of modding information in those stickies, which is why they are stickied. You can read the other forums, you just can't post there yet. Just post some here in the Entrance Hall - maybe help out a few others who have modding questions - and you should be promoted with little delay.

If you can't find your answer in those topics, post back here and I'll copy your question to the Dungeon.

You can set the Forenames and Surnames for your Irish, and Welsh factions using the Heroes files if you are modding the regular MTW eras you would use the DEFAULT HEROES file for the Viking era of course you would use the Viking Default Heros file. This Heading
SET_FORENAMES:: FN_01 1 8 // Irish
Means the Forenames for the Irish are Forename list #1 and the 8 means the first 8 names are designated as Kings names
SET_SURNAMES::FN_01 1 ,simply means the surnames will be translated from the # 1 surname list
Most Factions have there own Forename/Surname lists
To set them up for your factions just edit the headings with the corresponding list number you can use any combination you want. If you add name lists of your own making you must make entries for them in the Loc/Eng/Names file. I would suggest read the headings of the Heroes file as they offer some good basic structure info. The third number gives the Roman numeral for the starting King because all factions use their first King name as their starting King.

Papal States(Early) have
FN_PAPIST 0 8 2 1 8 20 2 1 2 7

2nd number represents the number of names that the Papists use for Popes. This is also in the default_heroes.txt
3rd-10th numbers represent each of these 8 names by showing how many Popes of this name have ruled previously. So the next Pope Gregory (last Pope name) is assigned Roman Numeral 8 IIX.

When a faction just has 0 0 the factions is said to have had no previous Kings - the 0's for each name are left out.

Can I post my mod though? Stupid question probably. If anyone wants it I can e-mail them it for testing, but everything is working perfectly, and I have found that it has added a whole new dimension to the game, apart from the niggly bug of the Scots being able to produce Barques in one year and going to to the rule the seas, any ideas of why that might be happening? As I really wanted them to stay put as in reality, (set them to Catholic Isolationist) oh by the way if Lysander ever reads this I have to say that he/she is a GOD for posting the solution for battles crashing with new factions Absolute GOD
