The Sherwood Foresters are a rebels only unit in Mercia so it´s not likely you will ever see them. However it´s seems to be some kind of uber unit. I used the unit compare tool from the site of clan berserk and only Gothic Knights can draw against them. (this is with equal valour/armour/weapon)
So has anyone had to deal with these guys yet?

I've played 2 bizantyne campaings with the VI x pak, in both I've bribed the troops in Khazar, got the default Khazar royal cavalry and inmediatly built an inn. After more than 100 years I haven't seen a single KRC appear. The same happened to the almuhawar (spl?) infantry in the Iberic penninsula and don't doubt the same will happen when I hold Mercia with the forresrter. Them units are so rare that imho they really don't help win any game. They only add up as a curious variety if and when you get them. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/rolleyes.gif

Sorry to share this with you but every time I read about Sherwood Forresters I think of Robin Hood: Men in Tights. Blame Mel Brooks, not me.

I have yet to see them and I have not seen them mentioned in any other thread...maybe they're meant as a kind of Easter Egg?
Can you deploy them in custom battles?
Otherwise its a good idea badly implemented http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/frown.gif

take moldavia and you can train avar nobles with an armourer and horse breeder, they have very similar stats to khazar nobles as do heavy steppe whom you can also train on the steppes with an armourer

With mercenaries, besides the Inn do you have to tech up the structures to a level that could produce the mercenary unit (not sure what structures would get you KRC, horsebreeder's guild or something like that?) I realize that upgrades and all reduce the likelihood of mercenaries being produced. Another questions on mercenaries: if I produce a unit in a province that year, does it prevent a merc unit from being produced in the province that year? I'm wondering if merc production takes advantage of an empty queue.

No, you could get Gothic Knight-level mercenaries with only an Inn in the province.

Saw them once as the HRE; They kicked the French out of Merica, but in MTW beating the French under AI control is not much of a brag. Since the English and their tight fetish isn't really a German kind of thing never messed with them myself.

I've never seen the Sherwood Foresters myself and I just played a game entirely as the Rebels.
I did get Robin of Locksley under my command when Mercia rebelled. He led a unit of Saxon Huscarles. He had his own special portrait and 4 command stars and the virtue Occasional Mercy.
He started out good. Within 5 years he was a Severe Alcoholic and was down to 1 command star.

Both Khazar Royal Cavalry and Sherwood Foresters are troops that appear only in rebel stacks. They never appear as mercenary troops.

Yes Yoko I got them playing as the hungarians and two AN units sliced tru mongol heavies like a hot knife tru butter. Best early shock cav. I have seen. They are sure worth every florin you pay for them. Pity you can't train those tanks beyond early period.
Thanks for the info about only finding Forresters and KRC in rebel stacks Hoplite I know who to bribe now. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/cool.gif
