Still is there enything else that I gan do .I dont like killing my people. Is it necessary evil thing to do.

You do know you can take titles away from generals with bad vices by droping an emmisary on them instead of killing them don't you?

Also if they have otherwise good stats like high acumen/piety/ dread you could strip his titles (drop an emissary on him and the option will shgow up)put the monopoly trader as governor in a nontrading provinces like normandy/ sinai/ rome/ scotland etc

Sometimes the general knows the exact reason he has been stripped of this title and quits being a monopolizer or an outlaw but usually after giving him another title in about 4 or 5 years hes back some other mischivious affairs. I've realized the biggest factor is how much xtra income you have

Yes yes emissary can strip generals from titels..and I use them alot.... and thats why I got 7-9 5 star emissarys.
But every thime I give titel to somebody he gets monopoly treder or loony or or so drunk that his achumen sufers.

Oaty I havent seen that kind effect on my generals. But then havent much bay attention to this. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

later in the game, when you can afford it, lower the taxes in your some of your provinces from v high to normal or even low. this gives the governor les money to spend and helps cut down the vices. in some cases it even promotes virtues to increase his wealth from what little he's got - but this could be coincidence.
you can always raise the taxes in times of military emergency, and then lower themagain later - just like in real life http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif

Get him a bit more drunk and his retainer will get good at making decisions for him thus no accument penalty http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/joker.gif

Try to avoid garrisoning them in castles too. I know it looks ugly and its harder to keep track of units, but governers in the field (even if just a garrison) accumulate less vices than those cooped up in castles.

I try to keep my titled generals in the front line, to acquire more useful virtues http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

It seems to me that once your empire grows large (50 provinces maybe) is when the problems start. I had a recent English campaign where I kept about 90% of my governors sitting in stacks with the King in Flanders. I kept future governors waiting in Wessex and about 4 emissaries in Flanders to untitle those who got bad vices. By the time my empire grew large, it was not unusual to have a new governor titled in Wessex and in the one turn it took him to get to Flanders acquire a bad vice. After many turns of this waste of time, i took to just taking out the really, really bad governors who had vices that brought down happiness.

In another Turkish campaign I started early to groom good governors then untitle them after they got a few good vices (steward, builder, etc) and saved them for later in the game. This worked out well and worth doing if you have the time to micromanage it.
