I am playing as the HRE, and for a number of years now an Italian crusade going from milan to antioch has been sitting in my province of Burgundy.

I only have my King and a couple of mercenaries there and every year the mercenaries are being depleted (though tere is no problem wiht loyalty. I want to wipe out the remaining french in Toulouse but fear to bring in my units, the last time the Italian crusade passed through asutria I lost 200 of 600 men and Henry the Lion (4*), and a further 200 from Bohemia.

Why is it just sitting there for four years and is there any way I can get them to piss off (short of invading milan)? They should be able to get as far as nicaea safely as that is held by the Byz.

Once my spanish king had two crusades (one french, one german) camping out in Castile. For 3 years the suckers didn't move a finger. So I vacated Castile and watched as the elmo heads made franco/german cat food. Later I reconquered the prov with my own crusade.

I know it's not the best strategy, but I was sick and tired of having unwanted, chicken crudaders living at my expense. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smokin.gif

Maybe let lose a few out of control Inquisters to lower the province Zeal? Once as HRE I had a French crusade move between Hungery and Bohemia for about ten years once.Away if you can't play with the French go take it out on the Italians, the money you'll get from Venice will make you fell better;-)

I hate Crusades leeching my troops. I usually try to move armies out of their way if they are going across my lands.

I especially hate it when the computer 'breaks the rules' and keeps moving his Crusade back and forth between two provinces, sucking up troops from them both. Surely you can't do this as a human player?

What version are you guys using? The 1.1 patch fixed some pathfinding issues with crusades.

http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif To be honest though even though it is a bug it is what happened in history to many provinces anyway. Especially in Constantinople. But I'd just download the patch.

Not really. Even with VI they still wander around in circles sucking up all the good troops, especially if conditions are changing in the enemy provinces they're heading towards.

My experience is that in VI they only do this if you have a good Navy, and they use it to hop around on a long drawn out route...

Personally I'd rather not let a Crusade Pass (especially when playing as Byzantium and getting looted is certain)
