Sorry for posting here but I am only junior member can anyone help me with this perculiar problem.
Running MTW on amd athlon 2000+ with ATI radeon 9000 64mb g/card. During battle sequences something very weird happens after 20 minutes ( almost exactly everytime ). I move my mouse ( to rotate display. move units etc etc ) the computer then draws the new view of the battle field over the top of the old view which still remains on screen, every move of the mouse results in the redrawing of the new view with the previous views underneath. after a couple of seconds I have got trees, mountains , units, mouse pointers etc over the screen. The really odd thing is the game is still running because if I press escape I get the option to quit the battle, which if I do so the game goes back to the campaign map and runs normally again. Any ideas anyone please? http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/confused.gif http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/mecry.gif

Wow. Next time that happens press F2 to take a screenshot; I'd like to see that. (Screenshots are stored in the MTW folder called 'TGA's&#39http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif.

Your processor & vid card are more than enough to handle MTW battles, so something else is afoot. What flavor sound card do you have, and what other programs are running besides MTW?

soundblaster 1024, I have tried shutting down all background programmes and it still happens, always after 20 mins, shorter battles are fine, I have also reinstalled the game after a full uninstallation.after it happens I can quit the battle, go to strategic map then fight another smaller battle and its fine, its absolutely stupid, cos I would have thought a hardware conflict would occur as soon as a battle begins or shortly after there of.

Thanks for posting your solution dropdeadboy - this will help other patrons with similar problems.

I hadn't thought of AMD's auto-shutdown....is your machine a notebook?
