Another modding question http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wacko.gif

Can somebody please tell me how MTW determines what units are elligble to be included in Crusades or Jihads? To clarify, I mean the units that you initially get when you launch one. Is this determined in a txt.file somewhere, and if so which one is it please?

Thanks in advance,

Lom. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/tongue.gif

You'll find this info in the CRUSADERS_UNIT_PROD11.TXT file in the root directory of your installation.
If you look at the file using the Gnome editor (recommended) then you'll find the info under column 11 Rebelling Troop mixes this unit can belong to, this gives the odds for each troop type of turning up under each type of rebellion. It seems that Jihads and Crusades are actually treated as special rebellion types that you build and control.
For example the entry for fanatics is CATH_REBELS(-10), CATH_ZEALOTS(-20), CATH_HERETICS(-20), CRUSADE(20). I am not too sure how exactly the numbers work, but I'm figuring that the higher they are the more likely it is for that particular unit to be included in the troops generated for the rebellion/crusade.

Hope this helps http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wave.gif

What are you aiming on changing out of interest?
I have a question related to this, I'd like to mod crusades to generate more troops (no need to change jihads, they are quite powerful enough), how would I do that?

I'm making a pulp-Fantasy conversion, almost every unit is changing to something else.

The names of Crusades and Jihads will change to 'Quests' and 'Blessed War-hosts' to fit the Fantasy world. So I need to change the units that will go into them or else I'll end up with them made up of some very out-of-place units Dark Elven Lords in a Dwarf 'Quest' for example.

But that's no problem at all now thanks to your help, and I've just realized that I can even have completely different 'Quest' units for each Faction. I don't have to have them sharing like the MTW Factions 'share' Order Foot and Fanatics.

The only thing I can think of is to increase the base size of Crusade exclusive units. This is a pretty clunky way to do it though. Hopefully someone more experienced knows a way to make Crusades generate more separate units.

Sounds like good fun, are you changing the looks of the units as well as the names and stats?
Good luck to you if you are... I haven't summoned up the courage to do that yet. Looks to be very difficult... http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/dizzy.gif

You're quite right, I want to increase the number of units generated in a crusade, not the size of the units, mainly as I've already made all of the units that were crusade-specific available to build (with some pretty heavy requirements) so increasing the size would screw that up a bit. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/frown.gif
Anyone got any ideas?

So far mostly just using the graphics from MTW Viking Invasion. I haven't messed with any of the unit BIFs yet, but I've changed some of the Info_pics, battle flags and castle flags.

I use as many of the most obscure units' graphics as I can to keep things different, and I also change shields, weapons and horse-types to make new(ish) things. I'm in the process of adding in Shogun units - that one is giving me some fun problems in working out how to get the Actions txt. files working properly. I'm getting there though.

I'm actually pretty pleased with the results so far. Everything looks like what it's supposed to be, and the altered Faction colours help a lot here for a unique look to each army. I was suprised how much difference the colours can make.

Still only pretty basic stuff though. Maybe one day I'll get working with making some new unit BIFs. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif

Is there anyway to mod in a max # of jihads? It's really really cheap to pop out one in every province, invade, run away and then swarm with a ton of jihads. I was playing my roomate and he sent so many jihads at me he was having trouble fitting them all in the province and he had over 8000 men http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/dizzy.gif

After that the house rule became 1 active jihad at a time.
