View Full Version : Crusades can't go by sea?

Am I correct in assuming that crusades can't go by sea? I tried to transport one last night but it could only go by land.

If so, this is historically inaccurate and a bit annoying.

I havent launched a crusade with VI yet, but unless things are changed you can absolutely send your crusaders over the waves. I've done so many times as i cannot see how you would arrive without losing tons of people on the way if you took the overland route.

Three possible problems:
1) You don't have a port in whatever province the Crusade is in.
2) You don't have a continuous line of boats from whatever province your crusaders are in to the target province.
3) An enemy boat is interfering with your continuous line of boats.

Most likely the #3 is the problem. I beleive you can press the letter "V" while on the campaign map and it will show you where your ships are being blocked. If any of the sea provinces that you have boats in is red (or yellow?) then you cannot transport troops through that sea province.

I bet either one of your other enemies has snuck a boat in your path, or the owner of the province you are crusading too has a boat protecting that province (or possibly in another province that is still disrupting your line of boats.)

I hope one of the above is correct. On another topic, here is the first time i've used my signature, hope it works http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/tongue.gif

You can send crusades by ships.

Click V to see which of the sea regions have an enemy ship in them. Enemy ships will block troop transports and trade. If you do not have a port in the province with the crusade, it won't be able to leave. If you don't have a continuous line of ships to the province your crusade is headed towards - it won't go.

I rechecked and you're right; the sneaky Spaniards snuck one stinking ship in the way.

Thanks for the info

Not completely correct unless you developed that Crusade/Jihad on an island wich there only about 6 in the game, it will just take much longer to get there without ships.
