Lots of good advice already. To add a bit to it, find a style that fits you. Some people play with fast, hard hitting but little survivable units. Some balance their forces. Others are slow yet overpowering. Find what is most comfortable for you, then use that style to break the other types. In doing so, you will also learn the weaknesses of your own chosen way, and know best how to counter it when facing someone who plays as you do.

Also, remember basics. Height is good, as is tricking your enemy into running his cav into the woods and finding your spears ready for him there. Flanking is also useful, but do not overextend your own lines to do it.
Do not lock yourself into a static position - IE - Don't Camp. The best can break a camper every time. Especially when you are on defense, remember that an opportunity not taken is an opportunity wasted. Too many players, especially when the defense, fail to do more than sit and rain fire - and often miss wonderful opportunities to roll up an attacker's flank with devastating results. Regardless of whether you are defender or attacker, do it actively. This does not mean that you should not sit on a hill and shoot, but means that you must do more than just that if you expect to win against the most skilled. Do not go with simple cookie cutter armies, strive to achieve a balance of force that fits your style but does not make you one dimensional. As Sun Tzu said, be formless. Strive to conduct yourself always with honor - never talking too much trash in the forum, and never using the "cheats" in game, such as the extremely dishonorable red zone cheat. Also, if you are going to lose, do not drop. Finish it out, learn what went wrong, thank the person for the game, and remember that it is just that - a game. In victory, as in loss, be gracious.

And most of all, treat others with the respect that you wish to be treated with, and remember that the whole point of gaming is to have fun.

becoming the very best will be hard work but eventuelly a dream may come true. the hardest thing is perhaps being at a constant level. just 1 sloppy day/moment online might destroy a fine reputation.

further dont focus on doing a certain army selecytion trick on a specific map. many people have found good armies for a certain map but they fail in every other situation.

That should be enough to get a start. Once you have beaten all of these on the list, you can consider yourself well on the way to your goal. When you can beat all of these regularly, you will have achieved your goal.

Don't forget, that in order to be the best, you must also be willing to battle with anyone else out there.

Whatever you do, DON'T play either UglyElmark or myself (uglyObake these days). Based on Erado's criteria, we are the two best players in the community (we lose all the time)! Fast, that you've taken the head of any of those players is a credit to your skill and the training of Kocmoc. However, I should have also mentioned that many of these players use "fun" armies on a regular basis and not always their Comp armies. When you join with them, ask that they take their comp armies and not hold back.

Better yet, play them in a competitive battle and insist that they use their primary name. That will ensure that you are truly having your skills tested!

FasT, I partially share your goals. Just a week ago I was just like you, wanting to get in and start the conquest. But I'm a lot more relaxed now because of the great people here who humbled me but still give me a chance to get into the Wolves. As long as I'm a wolf, and as long as the wolves still are the best and are the undisputed masters of strategy, then I'm happy as I'll ever be. My advice, stop going for personal glory and get a clan. Then help that clan, build it up with your two cents, and then you'll be part of the best. After all, why be the best when you can share being the best with comrades that care about you? And finally, read the book "Leadership Secrets of Atilla the Hun". It will guide you though steps on how to have Emotional Stamina, Courage, Disipline, etc. Good luck!

Where Magyarkhan and AMP and others have the most wins, I myself am proud of every single loss I have attained! I enjoy playing and have found a group of guys who like to save my butt during 2v2s and up. There for awhile I felt I had explored every way there was to lose a match, but since the patch, I have found a plethora of new and creative ways to have my men go screaming off the map. LOL To improve your game, just stick around awhile and play as many people as you can. You WILL get better.

Tank you may be inconsistent in the quality of your game, but I consider you among some of the best players in Shogun. Fear (only guys I can say would have given Rage a run for our money.....when both clans were heavily active...take note that wolves have the best single players for a clan but Rage and Fear have/had the best team game)

lots of others who show plenty of skill...but in a 100 battles these teams listed will win about 90% and normally attacking.

Fast person...another little message for you...you will not be judged for a while...these fellas I have mentioned have been choppin off heads for over a year...maybe 2 years now...and can still dominate the battles if reqired.....so like I say....time will tell..be prepared for a long wait.

Please clans and ronin I do not wish to upset you by who I have mentioned (or not as the case may be)....but let me repeat what old MongolPants has said (or Magyar to those who dont know his ronin name..hehehe)....its not about winning the once..or even twice.....its about doing it week in week out for year(s)...
