Hi

It's not the first time this happens, but yesterday I WAS paying attention.

I had finished the 1st stage on my North African campaign (3 provinces - Morrocco, Algeria and...) and left my 6* general stationed just before Cyrenaica, waiting for the next stage (while i build up and get better units, this was around 1134).
For the next 3 turns, he shows only 5* WTF??? http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/eek.gif

Now he's 6* again Pheeuuwww

I know this is just a glitch, but I've been wondering...

Any1 had similar problems?

sometimes v/vs can drop and raise command, and for some reason retraining sometime does as well.

Leaving a good commander sitting around doing nothing is a sure fire way to get negative V&Vs that take away command... I guess they just get lazy and out of practice.

Anyway when in doubt give them a governorship or title that gives command stars.

Thnx for our replies guys, but...

... he lost a star the turn after he had conquered the province. Even so, i am willing to believe that some negative v&v was given to him.

But a v&v that got him back that 6th star ?? http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/rolleyes.gif

That's too much of a coincidence, don't you think?

Al

PS: What i'm trying to point out is that I think there might be some kind of bug lurking around.

Could he be a strong attacker or defender ?

If he is a skilled defender he will get +1 stars/command while sitting stationary. If you move him to attack a province he will drop 1 star...unless he is also a skilled attacker, in which case he will have the same number. If he is a skilled attacker, but not a skilled defender, then his stars will be higher when he attacks, but not while sitting in a province (a naturally defensive position.)

Stars go up and down with vices and virtues as well. There are plenty of negatives. I had a campaign as the Danes where every general I made with 1 or 2 stars would get a nasty negative vice on the next turn or two, and be back to zero (or less.) I had counter agents and border forts but it didn't help. This happened at least 5 times in a row in different provinces, and there was spittle on the screen from my protests. Later it stopped occurring regularly, but it was an absolute disaster for a while. (This was the toughest expert level campaign I ever played...and the falling star generals were only a small part of it...I should write a story on it some time.)

I just can't believe this http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/eek.gif

Last night this damned(?) general went from Weak Principles (-20% to Bribery cost) directly to No Principles (-50% to Bribery cost)

Result: He got another command star. He now has 7*. Sheesh (where's the logic in this???) http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/confused.gif

And, less you ask, i let him stay put defending my border province, before he got that v&v.

After that, I moved him straight away near to my King, who's presence, I hope, will weaken that bribery thing.

There's something wrong going on here, definetly http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/dizzy.gif

Dîn-Heru: He got skilled attacker after conquering that province in North Africa. That's when he got his 6th star. Everything i'm posting here happened in peace time as that was the last province of the Almos.

Even if your General has No Principles Bribes are still very Expensive... a Very Good General with a large army costs a lot to tempt, and if he has high loyalty that makes it a lot worse (marry your daughter off to him).

Few factions can afford to upgrade their troops, let alone the cost of a bribe like that... As long as you keep his loyalty up you should be alright.
