Amilcar has made a neat little app,
that allows you to choose an army and compare possible upgrades,
very handy if you don't want to trawl through the unit_prod files to compare stats

Units Stats Reader -- Army Builder (http://personales.ya.com/almircar/)

(* run setup.exe to install - kinda important that bit *)

Thx for the reminder Barocca. I highly recommend this app.

This is really a great tool. I LOVE it. It has been posted here before by Simurgh on Almi's behalf.

My only question is: Have we found a solution to the more than 4 tax ?

*Raises hand, wiggles little finger*

I do not believe in mathematical calculations of pure efficiency. In fact it is such that Ziggy depends on his artistic ability to defeat his opponent (with the utmost style)

*Picks up guitar*

Now it is such, and the time is so, that it must be done.

*Plays a chord*

I hereby excommunicate the usage of this tool, and condemn those using it to listen to 'Space Oddity' (by the esteemed Ziggy himself) while using this tool. This to ascertain a touch of creative input into such a boring numerical tool of our trade.

*Grabs beer*

Now who said I couldn't do compromises?

LOL http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/joker.gif

its a great tool not necessarily for stats but for understanding what you can buy with a given florin level. It can be used very creatively, you will have some examples in the Mongol replay thread. It also saves your opponent a lot of time, you can setup your armies before you go online.

PS: I hate math too. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/pat.gif

Oh I know the numbers of my trade http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif I choose to forgo the definite calculations.

Ziggy does not need those. He only needs the extremes. No fun without extremes.

The tool now add the tax correctly. Within +1/-1 Florin (due to roundup errors), the tool should show close to what you could get with the allocated florins.

Knowing stats doesn't substitute for a lot of experiences playing, but it does help speed up the process of army selection. I am a tad quicker selecting my army http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

BTW, Almircar's tool is an army selector tool, not a unit stat compare tool in the strict sense: you can't compare unit of different factions, nor can you see more than the usual stats (att/def/armor/rankbonus).

is there any fear that a stat helper will bring the diversity of armies fielded down?

MizuKokami,

Hi, and yes it does weed out army diversity quicker. That will happen anyway over time as players gain experience, but accurate unit compare tools speed up the process, especially with so many units to learn about. Once players are using the optimum armies, the tactics and luck factors determine who wins. Of course, you can intentionally select an army of less than optimal combat power and try to overcome that disadvantage with your battle skills.

it's a fun tool, and can also help you develope interesting armies. some of those low end troops are really cheap at v4 and can pack a whollop too...

thanx to almi for the good app, now, to get administrator rites on my work pc.. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif
