I've noticed that some units have particularly higher morale than other, seemingly, equal units. For instance, there were three spear units under a 4 star commander. Their armor and valor were the same levels. The morale was 2, 6, and 6 for them None had any virtues or vices. Does the program know of some presently unknown virtue, which it accounts for?
Similarly, I've seen Byz infantry with varying levels of valor (2's and 3's) and some LOWER valor units had higher morale.
Anyone have thoughts on this? Thanks

Were all the units built in the same province?
I'm not sure, but I think some buildings give all troops built in the same province a moral bonus, that may explain the differing moral.
Also any V&V's on the unit commander might efect the unit he commands.

I noticed this in the first battle of a game, as Byz. Perhaps some units started in Constantinople. There's a monastery there in the beginning (in WesMod). Think that would account for it?
If you were looking at there moral on the battlefield this could easily be accounted for if they did not have a flank protected along with other factors

Yes, a monastery gives a morale bonus.
Edit: well, I`m not sure if it really gives a "moral" bonus http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif
Most certainly different provinces is the reason of this. All religious buildings add Morale to troops. Ehh... just not the Chapter House.
