Ha, just bought Viking Invasion, actually ran somewhat into it and couldn't resist that box http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

So, nicely installing, everything running smoothly, and I quickly started a new campaign. And the very first thing I noticed when I took a good look at the campaign map was that there is one Dutch province too much for the times http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif .

If someone already noticed it, my apologies, I thought it was just funny. That little 'island' in the Netherlands is Flevoland, which did not exist until 1940-1970. That was the time the land was taken from the inner sea to create the 12th Dutch province.
I do not mind this little glitch, just wondered if it had been noticed before. After all, that part of the map has no 'need' to be historically accurate.

Actually many games have got this inaccuracy. Most producers are just tolazy to get an old map of europe. On the other hand its logical, since only holland changed in landsize so dramaticly versus the sea through the centuries, so it would be strange if they had to change the entire map of Europe just because we stupid dutch had to change our landscape...

There other parts of holland which are also not correct, like the afsluitdijk (dyke) and parts of the provinces Zeeland and Noord Holland which had more lakes and/or space for the sea, but which are now filled up with land. Both of these minor glitches are visible on the MTW strat maps...

Well atleast they got the battlefields right since everything is flat I know Dice interactive (battlefield 1942) can learn something about that, since in that game holland has got mountains http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/dizzy.gif http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/shock.gif

there are other innacuracies on the maps. For example if you look at greece in the MTW map you will see that in the north there are 2 peninsulas next to eachother while there should be three....it seems the map maker forgot a rather large piece of land and a tourist attraction for hundreds of thousants http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

Well if we are going to get picky, I've noticed that dozens of sizable islands seem to be under the sea in the main strategic map, whilst an insignificant rock, Rhodes, is included. Maybe the guys at CA only included islands they had visited on holiday?

No, they included these rocks because these are historically significant for crusaders. Rhodes Island was occupied by the Crusaders.
