for a first mod, a good one to try is the MedMod, one of the best mods around. if you want to make battles more interesting then Kekvits unit mods could be for you, as would her editing guide. on the other hand if you wish to add new factions then there are mods for adding in the fighting orders, and one to make scotland playable is being tested now before being added
if your up to it, there are plenty of guides to make your own mod, to make the game exactly how YOU want it. down in the dungeon, which you can view even if you can't post, there is a v good guide to editing the campaign map, and another v good guide already mentioned to creating and editing new units. the step by step instructions make it fairly easy to mod the game, and when you get stuck you can always come back here, and the modders will be happy to help, jusp put FAO Modders or the Dungeon in the subject as well as the problem
happy modding
