View Full Version : mongols/maps
i was wondering had anybody created a map to play as the mongols before the unifaction of the ghenghis the various tribes also as anyone just concerntrated on trying to recreate historical events using just one faction say from ghenghis through to kubali i think this would be a good idea but if it works or has been done i dont know you could recreate historical campaigns regardskara khita empire or khwarazmshah ala al din or various other historical events or even hulegas incorparting the crusader states on any period from the mongol period.
by the way i DO like/or would like to play these type of campaigns just concertrating on one faction but thats just me http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif
thanx for the replys so far to my other questions i still looking at ALL the info concerning it

jimmy,
A few basic punctuation rules work wonders when asking a question/(s) in English.
If you are asking Is such a mongel mod possible? - Yes
If you are asking Does such a mongel mod currently exist? - No
If you wish to create such a mod then I'm sure you'll elicit much assistance from many individuals. If you wish to attempt such a task then post in the Dungeon - you'll get a lot more feedback (no promises it will be all be positive!http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif - providing such individuals who wish to assist have the ability to circumpass your grammer

i have only just come to terms with the computer. midle age problems you see? problems just like prostate trouble http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif
i shall try harder next time as i am a single finger typer and an even worse when it come to spelling and grammar but at the end of the day you replyied and thats all that matters.
i just thought that asking a few questions i would get some more replys as regards peoples preferences to mods etcthat could point in the right direction.
it just saves me a lot of time trolling through all the posts.
there are people like me who are computer iliterate or just struggle with the basics. i love the game and was just wondering that some people are good with computers some are not i fall in to the latter. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/frown.gif
so if any one can point this newbie/noob in the right direction it would be much appreciated.any way welly thanx for the reply bud.i find its easier to ask face to face questions than type it out on a keyboard as i am trying to concerntrate on what i am doing. its some thing i will have to try and sort out or live with http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/confused.gif http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/confused.gif

what do you mean by saying that you want only one faction in that mongol campaign jimmy? http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/eek.gif who would be the enemy ? http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/shock.gif can you explain it?

The enemies would be the other Mongol tribes. The Mongols weren't a nation before Genghis Khan just a collection of warring tribes.
Jimmy have you ever played the old KOEI game Genghis Khan?
http://www.the-underdogs.org/game.php?id=451
You had the option of starting as Genghis Khan in the world campaign or as Temujin and unifying the tribes first.

So that mongol mod would be something like Shogun - with many factions belonging to the same nation? This could be very interesting to see that kind of mod. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

unify all the tribes then on to world conquest.you may be able to play it through the mongol bloodline? i dont know if this all right.
people seem to forget genghis came from a small tribe then went on to unify all the tribes including his setbacks. then attacked modern day china. to be able just to play his campaigns in china or the middle east. then on into europe my hummble opinon is its a good idea for for creating SP campaigns any other peoples thoughts on it? http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

Are you already working on this mongol mod Jimmy , or is it just an idea?
its just an idea i tried modding SSF http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/mad.gif http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/mad.gif put me of modding forever. [pardon the pun] maybe i was hopping someone else [modder] liked it and would give it a whirl.
koei also did a game kingdoms? i think about china.
anyway i think it would make a good game. i played genghis khan to death realsaed through infogames thats who i got my copy off anyway. would anybody else like to see it come to life http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif the mongols rampaging all over europe http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

Oh jimmy, I've got to admire your persistence in typing such long post via the one finger method. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/pat.gif Have you considered trying a typing program such as Mavis Beacon to learn how to use all your fingers? If you really want, an old dog can learn new tricks.
Anyway, the mod you are suggesting sounds like an interesting mix of Shogun Total War and Medieval Total War. First get your own house in order (the STW part), and then conquer others (the MTW part). Alas, I've no time or talent to take on such a task.
this may sound a stupid question as anyone modded both sudden strike series of games and MTW/STW. which did they find the easiest i thought SS was a pain the backside especially the annoying habit of duplicating commands and grouping units together. setting locations occuping buildings etc also whats the building/unit limits. how do you issue commands to say bowmen to advance[AI] I mean. bringing up reserves/does the game use a map/game editor like SS or is it more user friendly.i know people who mod SS and it them months up to twelve to create one SP map.
bloody good though http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif. or is it because you can give SS more complicated commands as opposed to MTW there fore creating very intricate movements say like trying to second guess a human opponent if he does this then it triggers this action and so forth.me heads hurting trying to get me point across as well as me finger http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif. can someone please answer some of these questions for me thanx. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

Koei's has a few titles that they keep redoing. Sadly their US sales apparently weren't too hot so a lot of what they make isn't released in English anymore. And they're strictly console anymore.
Their main series are:
Nobunaga's Ambition, Japan in the Sengoku period. Hmmm, sounds familiar doesn't it? Was their first game I believe.
Wasted hours playing that game on my NES.
Romance of the Three Kingdoms, the name comes from one of the greatest works of Chinese litertature. Warfare in China following the collapse of the Han circa 2nd-3rd century AD.
Genghis Khan. Mongols and world conquest of course.
And they've done a bunch of good and not so good titles. The Uncharted Waters and PTO games are really good.

Romance of the Three Kingdoms. Never really played it, but the concept was pretty similar to MTW, no? Would be a nice mod too (don't think I have any modding skills because of this comment, heavens beware!http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif.
Also, do you know Legend of the Five Rings? THAT would be nice to see, too. Ah, so many possibilities, so few abilities (on my side, anyway).
Koei games are somewhat similiar. The maps look about the same but the games are more at the strategic level and personel mangement i.e. troops are very basic types and who's in command is the main thing.
China would be a great setting for TW. There's so much history but it seems nobody wants to touch it. Maybe it's a leftover of the cold war evil communist chinese menace or maybe companies think it just wouldn't sell.
i agree especially with a mongol mod incorparting the hsi hsia empire/chin empire/kara khita empire/ and the neighbouring tribes which are [i think]tumats/buyats/tungus/taidyigod/sbangu/jalain/solangs/kitan/
tatars/kuighy/namians/keraits/uighurs/tanguts/saui uighurs/
kaluks/merkits/oiarts/ongguts ps sorry for the spelling
http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/dizzy.gif but it would make a great mod http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/eek.gif http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

Oh.. if we only had the map.Warfare across the steppe with the tribes would be a blast.
I still beleive China during the Warring States Period would be the ideal game after Rome, with maybe an eventual attack of Xiong Nu.
if you wander down to the Dungeon and check the subforum edit1 you will find a neat little utility called LukMapMaker (LMM for short)
This wonderful program allows easy and rapid creation of new campmaps for MTW 1.1,
from there it is only a matter of creating new factions in a manner similar to the way the viking invasion factions were created,
HOWEVER, due to the huge number of additional script files VI (2.0) version of MTW demands there is currently no ready conversion of LMM to allow VI mods,
BUT a day or two of carefull editing of the mtw scripts that LMM automatically makes and those same scripts will function in VI.
ALL the files EXCEPT the map and the castle/faction flags already exist in VI,
SO
get hold of LMM and have a read through the documentation,
find a suitable map for the area you want the mod for,
using the instructions from LMM mark all the borders, origins, castles, ports etc on it,
(run it through the LMM test run, this will announce any errors on your map so you can correct them)
NEXT find some suitable images to make the mongol clan castle flags and faction flags from,
NEXT document the different clans, including leaders and capabilities,
Bundle the map, the flag images and the documentation together,
use winzip to compress the file and
Upload it to the org beta section,
(go to the downloads page, and find the Upload Tools)
FINALLY announce your file sets existence in the Dungeon (edit1 forum), or here,
and i am confident some of the modders will jump on it for you,
If I have finished my current mod by then i would be most happy to have a look at making such a worthy campaign,
you just need to do some of the research footwork first http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif
any trouble making and marking the LMM input map, simply ask down in the Dungeon (edit1) or here and some of the crew will be happy to answer.
