OMG sry to beat a dead subject but this is re-freaking-dickulus If you followed my time agian thread you will notice that LOS gave me a file that would give me another period called virus mod or something like that, but I thought it didnt work totaly, but I did not bother to look in custom battle were it did show up, I know it is tiresome, but does anyone know what may have gone wrong? thx for yer time, I know this should probly go in the dungeon, but I already have a subject going on there so I didn't wanna spam it or anything, but if it seems fitting to go there any admin feel free to move it. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smokin.gif Thx =D

Okay, check this out, I reinstall MTW but I saved out virus mod put it back in, and it doesnt work right, but I look at the Early file and the Virus mod file, at the same time to see what he changed, and all LOS did was pu in SetGameEndDate:: 2003 so I delete that just to see if it will work after that, it does, so I think to myself: why try to push the end back when I could push the start forword? So I delet the SetGameEndDate:: and instead fixed the SetGameStartDate and the SetVirusModStartDate:: to 80 I think was the number, and now I have bountifull time, Thanx LOS couldnt have thought of this w\o you http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wave.gif now everything seems to be working good and I have an extra 1300 years or so to play in =D thanx to all those who helped. LoL I also noticed that there were 84 or so views and no one replied LoL oh well, its over now. =D

Well, it's not a big deal, really. However consider this:

If you start in the year 80 for example, you will have to play the game with all early units until 1205 (1125 years). Then, you need another 120 years (until 1321) to get to Late era to get all of the latest units. Then, you only have 120-130 years to play with them (until 145~).

Or you can start as normal in 1087, play for ~ 120 years to High era. Then play ~120 years more to Late era to get all the latest units, then you will have all the time you need to finish the game (until 2003).

It all depends on what type of units you like the most, early, high or late.

For me, I feel that 120 years in Early is too long for the AIs. They tend to filled up their armies with low end units. They will never upgrade their units or train better units unless they lose the old ones or the demand increase. On the other hand, 120 years for High era is a little short, especially the Mongol event happens right at the beginning (1230). Then, from Late to the end is too short for me to have all the fun. So, I cut the Early to ~40 years (1087 to 1125). Increase the High to ~180 years (1125 to 1301). Finally, move the end year ~200 years back (1301 to 1653) to have ~350 years in Late.

You can then just change when each era starts in the startpos file. simple

pdoan8 has a point, but I can't get the year to move back, or I would just do that, so I must settle for moving the start date back, unless someone else suggests a way to mod it that will work, but what LOS did is exactly what I did.

In the startpos file that youre editing. It has entries for the years the the early, high and late era's start. so you change your start date to 80. then you go find the spot where each era starts, and change them to the years you want.

OK Let us not overcomplicate something that is very simple.
The SetGameEndDate command added to the startpos file will allow you to modify the dates to your liking, all era dates are moddable and can be changed to any integer.
I have done it , many others have also it is not that hard. End Of Story http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

You do need to take some care with the Compass and Gunpowder events. My understanding is that these are hardcoded and cannot be changed. You can make them irrelevant by removing the COMPASS and GUNPOWDER build dependencies from the unit file, but that makes both events effective from the start of the game.
