Charging with archers?

Hi, I'm having a bit of trouble playing MTW as the turkish. The only problem I'm having is getting them to charge/attack. How the **** do I get units with bows to engage in melee? Eg, Hasishin, Janissary infantry... I can tell them to run into the enemy, but I can't get them to charge until they've run out of arrows...
Anybody help me please?

ack That was totally wrong. I think you need to hold alt or ctrl while clicking on the target to get your troop to change weapons. Taking them out of skirmish mode would help too

Checked my answer in a quick battle http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif Its the Alt key you need to hold while clicking on the enemy (don't play much these days)

Yes, hold down ALT and the cursor will switch to a sword from a bow icon. Now you may fight like normal. Also, be wary of the Windows key.

You may also want to take some of the hybrid archer units off of skirmish. Running the other direction from the enemy may not be what you have in mind for units like Janissary Infantry. Engage at will is best for units like this.
