Apperently there's a virus, called Blaster, roaming the internet. My computer was also affected and I did not open any suspicious attachments. This virus can enter your computer via isp port 135 (I really have no idea what that means...).

I don't know what it exactly did, but I read that hackers could control your computer, the "only" effect I noticed was that I was able to use my computer for a few minutes before I got a warning that it was shutting down in 60 seconds (I am honestly not joking).

Microsoft has a patch to avoid being infected and can be downloaded from their site. I seriously suggest you download it. I also read that august 16 all infected computers will activate the virus and attack the Windows Update site. Yes the same site where you can download the patch So download now before the site is down.

Download the patch here (http://www.microsoft.com/technet/treeview/default.asp?url=/technet/security/bulletin/MS03-026.asp)

Does anybody know that wether the patch kills the virus. I know for certain that I had the virus, but I don't know if it's gone now...

Cheers, Duke John

ps I know that does not concern modding, but I'm posting this with the best intents http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/pat.gif

The patch generally deals with the worm effectively.

Everyone who got this worm in the first place - You need to get yourselves firewalls and otherwise improve the security of your home computers. You are not targets for hackers of any great skill maliciously attacking, the danger is simply that they will use your computer to launch denial of service attacks against a high profile target like Microsoft. A firewall will prevent the virus getting onto your computer via open ports. Zonealarm is the best firewall available for the home user. Period. The world's number one mind on computer security agrees.

Let this be a wake up call.

Blaster is not a backdoor, as far as I know, so it will not allow hackers to remotely control your computer. Rather the virus itself will use your computer to launch a massed attack on the windows update site, carrying a message for Bill Gates regarding the buggy/crappy nature of windows products.

You are not at risk if you use win98 or win95.

Don't panic. This is no super worm, it could have happened at any time. If you know nothing about security, chances are it has already happened to it and you simply haven't noticed because the virus has had no obvious effects.

EEUURAAH.

The patch don't remove the virus.
If you have the worm search for file like MSBlaster.exe and rename it. Then restart the PC. But don't stay unpatched in internet, it could be a question of minutes to be infected again, because every infected PC begins to scan randomly another PCs in internet.

I think every antivirus company have now a online scan about this virus. If you have a firewall, you should be safe, but even so get the patch. If you have autoupdate active, you should have this done before month.

I just want to say LOVE YOU SAN
billy gates why do you make this possible ? Stop making money and fix your software

This message is in the virus code. I have no comments.

Yeah I'm doing some work in a computer shop and business is brisk due to the worm. Just download the updates or at least get an anti-virus and keep it up to date. Otherwise...

the patch doesn't kill the virus, only prevents infection/reinfection

to remove it, simply end process msblast.exe, shred the file in systems, and sort out the registry as well
