MTW is such a great game, it's worth persevering to get it to work. I had two hurdles to jump before I finally got the game running properly, so in the hope that this might help someone else I thought it was worth sharing.

First, my system:

Win 98 SE
Direct X 9.0b
Nvidia GeForce 4 MX440 64MB
AMD Athlon 900
256MB Ram
VIA KT133 motherboard

First problem: The game wouldn't run. The initial MTW spash screen appeared, and then it hung the PC.
Solved by replacing Nvidia drivers version 44.03 with older version 41.09. It won't run at all on my PC with any version after 41.09.

Second problem: The game had a nasty habit of freezing during battles after a minute or two, particularly with large armies.
Solved by updating the VIA 4-in-1 drivers from v4.43 to v4.48.

After a lot of frustration, swearing and disappointment, it's running like clockwork at last

good info, allan. thanks. your system is very close to another's in here that is having troubles. the win98 + directx 9 combo seems to be rather fussy when it comes to mtw. so any systems like this that do work, it's good to know what they're using.

yes, the 4 in 1 drivers corrected a problem with the agp and some other things. you prolly could have gone back to the .36's or .38's too, before they went to that new system.

glad ya got it going and thanks again for the info.
