Has anyone put together (or obtained) some maps which show the starting positions of the factions for the periods.

I'm very new to the game and am beginning the depth that it offers.

I would like to be able to study a map over coffee to plan my approach. At the moment I'm making silly mistakes like accepting alliances from factions without really knowing who or where they are. I then often find myself surrounded with allies which makes expansion pretty difficult because everyone gets upset if I invade an ally

Thanks in advance,

Nigel

If you go into the MTW directory the maps are in there. I think its MTW/textures/campmap.

i think.
if you have paintshop or somethin like that you should be able to open them

I was trying to post this last night but the org went down when I hit post, that's the third time that's happened

Email Bushface at rff@tesco.net with the subject header MTW maps, he has made some maps of both the normal MTW campaign map and the VI map of Britain. They print in black and white onto a sheet of A4. They don't have faction ownership marked on them (they do have trade goods, ports and iron) but you can add that yourself in ten minutes if you load a campaign game and then type .matteosartori. exactly as it appears here including the two full stops on the campaign map screen (the one where you move your armies). If you type it correctly you will hear a rustling parchment and the whole map will be revealed, allowing you to see exactly who owns what, then colour in your paper map to suit.

I've done one map for each of the three medieval start periods and one for the Viking campaign in Britain they really are helpful, they allow you to plan your campaign over dinner

Most countries would give their right arm for such a situation. It sounds like such a silly thing to say, but I know exactly what you mean It's a good thing games are games, eh? http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

When I'm surrounded by allies I take the chance to build up and upgrade. Those allies are soon gonna break war, either with me or another nearby faction.
