as it says in the summary- can you train them? currently playing the Byzantines have an inn in tribizond and have seen every single other type of unit for purchase but not the alans

(my one unit of alans i started with have been around for nearly 150 years, have kicked serious butt and now number 3 valour 7 men- bless em)

p.s. also built a horse farmer+Breeder+spear just in case i was able to train them but no joy- can get CMAA and Gallowglass though?&#33http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif

In a standard, non modified campaign you can only recruit alans through Inns. An Inn in Trabzon should get you some alans. remeber also that the chance of mercenaries being attracted to the Inn decreases (for some reason) the higher the castle structure in that province.

thanks for the responses- i have just seen Clan Beserk's webpage (which is an excellent and useful site) and it notes that you need Kazar or georgia- maybe i'll try building an inn there and see what happens

currently i get every other merc under the sun but no alans http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/mecry.gif

(also hire couple every turn to make sure they keep coming)

p.s. seljuksinan is there a mod taht makes them trainable?

Yes I believe you can make any unit trainable by modding the game....you'll have to look in the Dungeon and ask the patrons there.

Not in a regular game they cannot be.... and as for the castle reducing the inns 'pulling' power of mercanaries... i assume tht its got something to do with as a land becomes more civilised their less likely to want bunches of roaming swordsmen tramping all over their nice ordered society ....
if u want to be able to train up alan then i think that this mod allows it... it contains some really nice additions also and is well worth a check out http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif
