Conversly the romans considered wearing trousers to be rathre effeminate. THough htey changed their mind rather when stationed in Northern Europe

hehehe, yeah it is funny. Also scholars say that the toga was most likely worn without any underwear and the toga could loosely be considered a dress.

Yeah, the Romans considered Germans and the like weird for wearing pants until the experienced the cold german winters and figured out that a cold breeze up there skirt kept there boyz pretty chilly. Funny thing about cloths is that they are almost always dictated by there enviorment.

Before this thread gets out of hand please keep in mind Romans thought casual or public displays of nudity by BOTH sexes was unacceptable and in poor taste. I believe the only exception to this rule might have been during athletic competitions which were usually held before an overwhelmingly male audience. It goes without saying that male nudity was considered less of an issue than female nudity but it seemed to be more of a sore point for the Romans unlike the Greeks who didn't care whether males ran around butt naked as messengers or when competing as athletes. Regarding female nudity many of you might be surprised to learn that in traditional, stoic Roman society it was considered improper for a woman to reveal her breasts at any time except to breastfeed an infant It was not uncommon for a traditional minded Roman woman to keep her breasts covered during the act of intercourse

Naturally one would assume these cultural and social standards were loosened over the years Rome went from a Republic to a reigning Empire to an Empire in serious decline.

Hehe, Spino you reminded me of an interview with a muslim man, I don't remember where he was from, but you can bet it was a very conservative place.

He had 7 kids but he had never seen of his wife, anything but her face and lower arms. Now imagine that. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

Exactly... from that program you got he feeling she even bathed with her clothes on. Not that she was disgusting or filthy, not at all.

But in all honesty, a husband should be allowed to see his wife, that is one of the few benefits of being married.

Vanya sez... this man used a "glory hole" to pluck the flower of his wife. That way, he not even set eyes on her. Then again... cannot be sure that its really her on the other side. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/idea.gif For all he knew, it could have been his daughter, his father, or the neigbor's anemic farm animal.

There is good logic to support this theory on fundamentalist mating practices. It is widely known througout the world that these deeply "tribal" people regard female visions as those of evil temptresses bent on corrupting their faith and turning them away from the grace of Allah. So, if they can mate without seeing the woman, then their medusa-like venomous characteristics will not poison their souls. Yet, they will be able to multiply and spread the word of Allah to the heathens (or kill them should they not be receptive). Why else do you think they force women to wear burkhas? For FASHION?? http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/mecry.gif

So clearly, though this display of TLC may shock us westerners, just keep in mind that it is totally kosher in their narrowminded tribal views of the world. (Not that there is anything wrong with that).

Furthermore, Vanya sez... all fundamentalist islamic homes come equipped with glory holes in every room. And what we call the "master bedroom" here is really two rooms there with additional glory holes. The holes vary in size, clearly, so that the inhabitants can choose the appropriate one for them. This cuts down on customization and allows builders to mass produce cheap housing by avoiding having to take measurements beforehand or make adjustments once a unit is sold.
