Arrowhead, Flight of Birds, Keyhole, etc. Available bottom left screen when attacking in SPCamp. I think there is a portait of a general-looking guy which is the menu button for these formations

Jesus! I got to try it when I have time. Been missing this option for such a long time?! Dumb me ...

Think about it, the very formations that Shingen and Kenshin had used before!!!

I'm not crazy about them. It's sorta random based on preset-guidelines.. you don't have any control except in what units you bring to the field.

Yeah Cat, the way the question was raised I thought that's what he meant. The normal standard formations are very much alive online. User presets are not and will not be possible.

The historical formations are fairly useless actually. They were a vain attempt to make sense of some really weird and complicated diagrams of supposed actual formations.

However, the formations are not hardcoded, but are described in the file "historicalformations.txt" in the aidata file. No reason you shouldn't modify these yourselves to something more useful. It won't matter if different people have different versions in network games (at least I think not). There are a couple of other similar files in that folder too, but messing with them won't do you any good, and may crash the a.i.

At least I'd like to see the "rotating wheel" (not presented in the historical formations) and "Crane's Wing" work. The former was the one that the great Kenshin used when his brave Echigo soldiers charged at Takeda Shingin.

The 2nd formation is a time-honored one used to pin and envelop (was this the one that shingin used? not sure).

Anyway, I am a bit over my head. This is just a game, I know, but sometimes when I charge my cavalry downhill, circle around and reform, I feel the ancient warrior's blood boil in my vein ... Muhaha.

And I love those historical campaigns. Especially the 1st one: Oda vs Imagawa. Pouring rain, treacherous woods, fearless warriors and their young lord who had been called "the fool of Owari" even by his retainers: Oda Nobunaga.
