View Full Version : People of Novgorod
All right, I'm sure this has been asked before, but how does one go about making the PoN playable? I've sifted through several threads, but haven't found any answers. Oh, yes, I'm using VI if that matters. Thanks in advance

Welcome Thwack. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wave.gif Thwack - it's a name and a sound effect I love it http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/pat.gif
If you look through the Org downloads section for MTW/VI you should find some mods that enable the good People of Novgorod.
The only mod I could find to make PoN playable doesn't work with VI. Can someone point me to a working mod and/or a guide to do it manually?

This is what I did. Change PoN to major from minor: makes faction available in Early.
Total War=>campmap=>startpos=>Early
Go to Active Factions in Early; SetActiveFaction:: FN_Novgorod FT_MINOR
change to; SetActiveFaction:: FN_Novgorod FT_MAJOR
Changed the name of the Sicilian faction to People of Novgorod.
I made the Sicilians a minor faction and in the Faction Offices section simply typed NOVGOROD in place of SICILIAN
ex:AddOffice:: FN_SICILIAN became AddOffice:: FN_NOVGOROD
You lose the Sicilians (or whomever you change) as a playable faction, but you get PoN and buildings that work ie: grant offices. You can also edit the office names.
As noted elsewhere you may want to make a backup copy of your original Early text file before you do anything to it
Note: you can NOT do a GA campaign; must be conquest http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wave.gif http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif
Why were they never mad to a playable faction since they don't seem to be in that bad of a postion and they are already there
Also, you can just change the FT_MINOR to FT_MAJOR
In the Addoffice area, just copy and paste the Russian part then change where it says Russian to Novgorod. Now you have both Russian and Novgorod and don't lose any faction. Just make sure that you back up your original and copy the texts in the exact format. You could also change the Russian into Novgorod without making a copy since the Russian doesn't exist in Early.
Ok, my rus spearmen are in the process of claiming Lithuania. Thanks for the instructions

While CA were making The other minor factions playable in VI, they should have done the same for Novgorod, as they are one of the more interesting minor factions on the map...
To be honest I'd rather be able to play as them than the Aragonese or Sicillians
