As the thread title states the purpose of the current thread is to investigate the highest valor units that ppl have had in their MTW experience.

So please post your brief description of the unit, its valour, rank of the commander and his V&V's, stars of the general, unit type and most importantly http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif how you got that unit to the valour indicated. Screenshots are very welcome. Plz make sure that the screenshot clearly shows the unit and its valour be it F1 screenie or campaign map one by highlighting the unit in question.

Awaiting entries with eager anticipation........ http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif

Well I never had any spectacular units in MTW mainly due to the fact war eventually makes it to multiple fronts of your empire so units have battles in many different territories so you don't have 1 main attacking army.

As for Shogun though I took honour 0 ashigurus up to honour 7 because they were the unit that was always flanking the enemy while the main fray of battle was going on. Unfortunately they had come from a rebellion and had been on the weaker half of my empire and eventually had the rout for retreat get cut-off and were no more.

I had some other ashigurus in the army but this 1 unit was doing all the work and using the others for replacements and at full strength was able to maintain that honour 7 level.

I am playing my first campaign as the Spanish and I have a unit or Early Royal Knights with a General that used to be a Prince who is Rank 9 and has Valour of 15. I have 2 other generals that were early Princes with Royal Knights that are both Rank 7 and have Valour 12.

MTW
Kataphraktoi, V15 7star gen, dont remember v&v

Hobilars, V10 9star gen, dont remember v&v.
his start numbers was: V0 0star gen

MTV:VI
Berserkers, got v5 after 2 battles with 8star gen they got V9

With 15 berserker units with V0 with a gen that had 8 star i got the saxons to pull back his 3000+ men army, next year he attacked with 6000+ men, he lost 2800+ and i only 48 http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

As an aside, what is the highest valour people have obtained for regular non-general units - i.e., ignoring v&vs, command stars etc?

I ask because I have spent a whole campaign trying to raise the valour of some of my units. At the end, V1 was common place, and I could muster a couple of complete stacks of V2 units. However I had only about 10 V3 units, and only 1 V4 (arbalesters, as if you couldn't guess&#33http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif.

It seems extremely hard to raise valour - I surmise it is because the units always line up the same way, and therefore the individuals gaining the valour today are the first to be slaughtered tomorrow....

I nurtured these units - making sure that when they went to battle they went up against creditable foes but were assured of high kill ratios, but still 4 is the highest I could get.
Does anyone know any tricks to this?

The highest I remember most fondly was a v7 culveran crew. Many a prince and general lost their heads and other assorted body parts during a long and bloody campaign down through spain and across North Africa.

The other units in the stack with the V15 general all have V5 or higher. The other Royal Knights that was once a prince's unit has V9.

I would say about half of my front line units are V4 and above. I repair those units even if they only have 1 soldier left, they always seem to fight better than a new unit. Units that break don't get ransomed back.

My units have been advancing pretty quickly. My kill ratios are usually around 5:1 or more. I'll group new units with a Veteran General that I have just repaired and after 2 or 3 battles they are V2 or V3 and from there they can take care of themselves.

I hate V0 units. I just got a new army 700 whipped by 40 Italian Knights Hospitaller. I had no general and the Italians sneak attacked my the turn before. At the end only 2 KH chased 203 CMAA and C Seargents off the map. I wonder what their Valour was?

I once had to throw together a scratch army to defend myself against a sneaky HRE invasion. Attacking across the river into Toulouse, my first unit of Chivalric seargeants were virtually all that stood in between me and defeat. Peasants, urban militia, hobilars and archers.

The seargeants stood firm, and lost 96 men without fleeing, and the unit scalped 450 by themselves. Valour 5 gained in one go...

blimey, that was a tense battle.

I once had 90 Saxon Huscarles valor 10. They were quite fun to use in battle. Put them with a general with decent command ratings and they could cut through anything
