ive had it happen as well, usually in Milan *sigh*
If you are targeting an overseas probince, and there is currently not an sea line to this province the army will not move.
Thanks goscho, i shoulda realised, DOH
I've seen the A.I. move through neutral territories to get a crusade to its designation, are'nt we allowed to do this to?
yeah u can send crusades through neutral territory, one time i was at war with the spanish and they asked permission to send a crusade through my territory to attack the mongols. stupidly i agreed and then the spanish sacked the first one of my provinces they moved through
One of the joyous things about playing an orthodox faction is crusaders.
"This Crusade is on the way towards %s, and a messenger has requested that you allow it to pass through your land. If you refuse, the crusaders will soil their armour and run away. Will you allow it to pass? "
"%s have sent a messenger. He explains that the Crusade is on a mission from God, and politely requests that you hand over the control of this province. Since they were too pathetic to capture it themselves, will you hand over the province peacefully? "

When you're orthodox, allow them to pass. They'll lose a massive amount of soldiers due to low catholic presence...
Of course, if your province is targetted...
yeah, im playing as byzantines at the moment. Everyone keeps crusading against me but when they get to my borders they are all too scared to attack. Right now there are 3 crusade armies sitting in neutral territory(A French, Polish and German) Hehe.

Crusades? What crusades? I modded them to cost 99999 florins and can't remember the last time I saw one. Somehow the Spanish still always end up as the most dominant faction though. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/rolleyes.gif

What I hate is that what has happened to me several times, a Crusade will enter my province, suck up my usually higher quality troops, and at the same time, the Crusader faction will invade the same province that the Crusade just entered. So, I'm left with partial units defending against whole units.

The AI can be quite cunning occasionally.
This is why I refuse entry to crusades when I'm strong enough to beat one and if nessesary, possess suitably skilled people to remove the pope.

What sometimes happens to me, is that if I capture or defeat an enemy, you gain the provence and stay there till the fort or whatever is destroyed. What I do when I'm a Byz, is I get a bunch of my army into the area the enemy is marching though and battle the enemy into death. The Crusades, have few really good units, just a bunch of Knights, and some wimpy peasents.
i agree.. most crusade armies are pretty pants except for the occasional one that has masses of different knights. altough they are always let down by the rest of the army, idontthink ive ever lost a province to a crusade.

I dunno, those order foot are pretty damn tough to beat in early, they even give AUMS a run for their money.

Yeay the foot soldiers kick ass. I've had to fight off a combined Egpytian army with Hospittler Knights, Foot Soldiers, Crossbowmen and others, and my foot soldier kicked thier butts to Cairo.
