View Full Version : ICT course/CLAITE
i am about to enrole on a 12 week ICT course then a CLAITE course after.
i was wondering if anybody had partaken on one of these courses and was it helpfull. also would information learned on these courses help me in the areas of map making or geting to understand how the editor/ mods work.
the first course is just for beginners and the claite more advanced. as i have no practical skills in computing i was wondering if these courses will give me a better understanding of computers and what they are capable of or not capable of as the case maybe. any hints/tips guides as to what courses i should look out for would be a great help or anyones experience of computer course/courses would be a great help also.
you cannot run till you have learned to walk so as far as i am concerned its a case of back to basics?

CLAIT sounds familiar. I think we went through it at school. It all depends. The one we did the only way I could see it being useful is if you were a beginner to computers, if you are (which, if you are using message board, I doubt) then it maybe worth going on, to get you introduced. Of course you can't have too many qualifications, so you may as well go for it, just to say you can.
cheers for the reply ican use the computer to a certain degree but i am unsure regards how to implement AI behaviour.
example agression settings/creating new units/changing parimters within the game like giving archers greater distance. changing map features terrain buildings.
how /can you transfer game elements from say STW to MTW were to save these files what directories changing game unit stats. creating new units. my version of MTW is the first version as i bought the game straight away when it came out. the read me file in the map editor is sparse and not very informative. also were to upload finished article map/campaign when completed? were all the info/stats regards units is kept?.[on computer]i can play the game no problems but i am not competent to start messing about with files and end messing the game up or worst still the computer. thats why i was looking for a course to help understand how to do it.are these the wrong type of courses.? i have tried modding but encounter problems with the maps not loading or the units not doing as i have instructed [not just MTW other games as well].i understand basically how to do it but understanding and getting it to work are to differant things.this is why i was thinking of a course

Well, I am no specialist on them, but the one's we did were general computer stuff, spreadsheets, word processing etc. In fact I don't think your going to find a course which will tell you about the finer details of M:TW modding, lol. What you are best to do is become experienced in computers, perhaps take a course in programming (Not easy in the slightest though, you have to be committed and enjoy mathematical type learning and understanding). Once you have mastered how computers work, you will be able to work out for yourself how to do the things you want. It's more learning general processes then what it is learning very specific things. Once you have learnt the process and how things typically work then you can apply that to more specific practices and so work it out.
Of course there maybe some kind soul around here that can provide you with tutorials and such like. But unless you've mastered the art of programming certain elements of files and whatever it takes to mod M:TW, a tutorial won't help you.
CLAIT and such things are more for people to have a qualification to say that they can use ICT skills, which then means that when they attempt to get a job their employer will see this, and will be more likely to hire them, or give them a promotion.
so its computer programing one problem i have is i work full time and do double shifts. there are HND in software engineering but a bit advanced for me so what you are saying is i need a basic course in computer programming.thanx for all your advice and wisdom i shall see if such a course is available and if i can work round my job[bills to pay http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/frown.gif ]does anyone know if this type of is avaliable?.
