civil wars

In MTW 1.1, I've never experienced a civil war for my own faction. But in most of the games I've played, civil wars break out among the AI factions. In my current game, the Egyptians were once a powerhouse, having captured Turkish and Byzantine territory (the Byzantines are now in Italy LOL&#33http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif, but then civil war broke out and they are now ineffective. The same kind of thing happened with the Almohads.

I don't know what causes the AI to have a civil war and was wondering if you could make them less likely for the AI (or for everyone).

It happens when loyalty is very low and the king has low influence. If the king goes campaigning the loyalty of his generals increases a lot.

I like civil wars. The other day in the Norman Invasion campaign (GreasePaintMonkeyBrains, thanks for that awesome campaign http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif ), My King, William IV, was King in 1366, a King worthy of the name "The Conqueror", for in that year, he conquered Wales fully. The loyalty suddenly dropped because I had to raise taxes to fund my "useless" wars against the Stewarts of Scotland. In 1367, the civil war broke out, and lasted for about 50 years. I had 2 Kings in that time. William IV (died 1401), and Egbert II (died 1435). (by the way, edited the date the game ends so I had a longer campaign. The Norman Invasion campaign now ends in 1573)

Edit 1--However, I do admit that with my expansionist policies and my sometimes...harsh *glare at son, Prince Aethelstan*...I have had my fair share of civil wars that have resulted in much bloodshed and horror. The most notable being that of my Scottish empire. My King had married Princess Mary (of the Scots, sort of wierd, even though they weren't related, but they're both royal http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/eek.gif By dynastic things of course), and my heritage brought me in control of the Scots, and people of the Isles. Well, I had to raise taxes, and then the Scottish nobles in the western and northern provinces rose up against me, and there was a horrible civil war which lasted only a short 10 years, but with over 30,000 deaths on my side. I shouldn't have created those large armies in the western provinces with low loyalty generals. It was the most horrible war ever experienced by the Scots. It lasted from the years 1232-1242, but the 10+ battles fought in the civil war (invasions of provinces) brought much bloodshed to the wee lands o' Scotland. and my Queen fled the country to go live in London in the shelter of the Norman King while she left her husband and sons to fight in the civil war. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/pissed.gif But the civil war turned to be a royalist victory, and the provinces were reconciled and loyalties were back to 200, replaced with royal princes with high loyalty. There were several small, but not successful, revolts in Argyll and Strathclyde, but not to worry, even though a popular uprising gained the Western Isles.
