I was attacking Imagawa (Me bein' Takeda of course). Get this. The Imagawa daimyo showed up in two provinces at once. Now what's with that??? Bug.

you didn't say if he appeared in two seperate battles at the same time, or you just saw two little daimyo icons on the campaign map. there's a difference here, which may not necessarily be a bug.

Perhaps a loss in the first battle forced him to retreat... into the jaws of a second attacking army!

What I have seen is the Diamyo in the first fight lose not only the battle, but also his life. In doing so, his heir is immediately promoted - and as Diamyo became involved in the second battle on the same turn. I have also seen the Diamyo retreat - to a province also assualted - and thus forced to fight the second battle as well. However, I have never seen the Diamyo survive the second fight.
