This post is not a call to battle, just one thing needs to be set straight in the event there is some confusion.

The MedMod is NOT the mod that was the subject of a certain recent disparaging post. It is an entirely different Mod.

The Medmod was conceived and authored by WesW.

The most recent incarnation 3.xx beta was done with help from Yelping Gorilla among a few others (forgive me for not recalling your names).

The Medmod in all its incarnations is a rather successful effort at COMPREHENSIVELY modding MTW in order to correct errors original to the game, as well as tweaks made to accomplish a more competitive campaign AI.

The MedMod has 3 basic incarnations:

a) Version 1.85 For God and Country
b) A No Units version 2.04 for MTW: Vikings (IV), where no changes were made to the Units.
c) Version 3.0x beta, which is a TOTAL revamp and rethink for MTW: Vikings (IV)

NONE of the above mod versions are for the beginning player, but after a bit of seasoning along with a good understanding of the game *DO* try either of the first two versions.

The new beta 3.0x is without question for the very seasoned player and/or a player seeking the greatest challenge with greater historical accuracy.

IMO, if you're a player having a relatively challenging time with vanilla MTW and/or MTW: Vikings, then you may find the MedMod in many ways to be a higher level of challenge. This is specifically so regarding the Campaign Map and, for some, a greater challenge *may* also be found on the Battlefield.

Some thngs to note regarding the MedMod:

1) The MedMod tweaks helps the AI to disperse its Ships better (presumably aiding AI Trade).

2) The MedMod attempts to aid the AI in building higher quality troops (fewer peasants)

3) The Medmod attempts to aid the AI in building higher level Buildings and in building more comprehensively across the Map.

4) The Medmod attempts to (midly) reorder Faction Provinces with the intention of (when feasible) greater historical accuracy and gameplay BALANCE (a best effort is made in this area; the Historians among us may have some disagreement; and the Gamers (me) may have some disagreement; as I said its a best effort which MUST be appreciated).

5) Rebellions are more Formidable (and possibly realistic), and, *I believe*, fewer in frequency. Personally, I LIKE the changes VERY much. MUCH fewer peasants, Less annoying (imo).

Reappearing Factions are also now a force to be reconked (sp?) with.

7) Crusades have been tweaked to be less frequent, more formidable (and possibly more historically accurate).

6) Someone please help me and continue this list, Thanks

Most info regarding the changes and be gleaned from the Readmes at WesW's page (http://wes.apolyton.net/).

Also, you can check the MedMod threads in the Dungeon:

Original thread regarding the new Medmod 3.x outlining WesW's Vision (http://www.totalwar.org/cgi-bin/forum/ikonboard.cgi?act=ST;f=5;t=8845).

Short thread discussing the changes differences of the 1.84 version for vanilla MTW and the No Units 2.0x version for MTW: Vikings (IV): Thread (http://www.totalwar.org/cgi-bin/forum/ikonboard.cgi?act=ST;f=5;t=7083).

An early thread discussing version 1.x of the Medmod giving a good run down of what the MedMod is all about: The MedMod (http://www.totalwar.org/cgi-bin/forum/ikonboard.cgi?act=ST;f=5;t=2909)

I'm certain if you do a Search you will find all the threads regarding the MedMod including WesW's first appearance in the Dungeon (and in the Org??) where he makes his first comments regarding his proposed MedMod.

WesW's MedMod dramatically improves the game. Makes the game much more challenging, and probably very much like the idea CA's designers had when they created the game. The amount of work put into the mod is incredible. Unfortunately, there are things that can't be modded, like improving the diplomacy and improving internal trade so ships are not as absolutely neccessary, but you can't have everything I guess. Also, hopefully, someday, GAs will be improved, too.

I'll second the notion that it's for players who don't mind getting their tails kicked on occasion. MedMod definitely isn't for those who gotta win everytime.

What are the specific changes that MED Mod v2.04 makes, I don't want to change the units, but I would like to see some tweaks to the AI. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/rolleyes.gif

Click the link above WesW's Page, and scroll down to the heading Medieval: Viking Expansion below the heading click on the link Installation and Descriptive Readme v2.04.

The Readme is authored by Wes and gives a good outline. Actually, the mod is so comprehensive that ONLY Wes probably has a handle on ALLLL the changes. The vast majority are SMALL tweaks though there are some MAJOR tweaks as well, but it is the CUMULATIVE effect of EVERYTHING that marks the shift in play. The tweaks are just too numerous (and changing) I think to be completely covered in a Readme, but Wes does his. [Forgive him, but I think Wes may be colorblind http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif You'll see what I mean.]

It would be a good thing for people to contribute their observations to the list I started.

Since I've been playing with the 2.04 NU version for VI stategic campaigns have become indeed more interesting to play (epic-scaled naval battles with culverine equiped warships that you would never fight in MTW 1.1 or VI, just to name something). I have only one complaint. MedMod seems to mess up with the translated text of my italian realease of MTW, so now some titles and descriptions are in English, and it's kind of aestethically annoying.

The only solution to that would be for your to translate the text. I'm pretty sure Wes doesn't speak Italian http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif
The same would apply to every language except English. Sa La Vie....

Game Publishers spend a lot money to translate a game's text into a myriad of languages from the English (or native) original. This is done after a game goes Gold, which is one of the reasons for the lead time between Gold and Release.

It's, also, one of the reasons a Patch can and may take so long.

For the MedMod to accomplish something comparable, someone or a team of someones would have to volunteer to do the translation(s).

You'd have to contact Wes and Yelping Gorillia, who, I believe, is responsible for most, if not all, of the new text descriptions.

Actually I'm not experiencing such problems with new units (I have the 2.04 release)...but with old ones, titles and some historical events. Do you perchance know where the game's text is stored? Is there a way to manually modify it? f so I would be very happy to provide an italian translation to Wes and Yelping Gorilla, as it's something I'd be going to do for myself anyway. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

Dhepee, you can find an extensive list of changes at WesW place and in the text files that come with the mod.
There are slight differences in sea zones, province ownership, unit stats. Tech tree and building properties present the most notable changes.
Ah, another complaint (somewhat less trivial). Trebizond's battlefield now resembles a nuclear wasteland dotted with shellholes and devoid of vegetation.

Whaaa, do *I* look like a Modder? http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/eek.gif http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif

At the moment, about the only thing working on my system is the Mozilla browser

The best bet would be to post in the lastest MedMod thread over in the Dungeon and/or give Wes or Yelping Gorilla an email.

Sorry, my mind is so focused on the new beta. After re-reading your post I get what you meant. I think you should post over at the Dungeon as I suggest. Sounds like a bug.
