Has anyone been able to host without turning completely off the xp icf firewall? Ive read everything I can get my hands on and still no one sees my game that i've hosted. Ive tried opening all the ports suggested at gamespy tcp and udp too still no effect. If you can host using the xp firewall please tell everyone else how u did it. You will be considered near genius by all us xp users.

Greetings Lord Rom and warmest (compliments of your firewall) welcome to the Org.
Sorry, a lame attempt at humour is all I can offer. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/rolleyes.gif

now why would i want to shoot for only 'near genius'?
make sure you've patched windows for the 135 open port bug and just temporarily disable the firewall. you shld be fine. after yer done gaming, just turn it back on.
or get one of the more configurable firewalls, like zone alarm, and see if that works. disable the windows firewall and use the other.

Thanks Kraelin for good advice. This website has some really great people posting here. I Still would like someone who has successfully configured the xp firewall to host to tell us about his genius. I dont anyone can do it though. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/joker.gif
If u can post this where all can see maybe it will have a better chance at a good response. If there is a better place, I dont know since im pretty new still.

Normally I dont have time to reply to posts from newbies like you Rom, but I was getting bored routing my opponents in mtw and thought I would show you true genius. You've done everything right following gamespy's instructions to open the ports that they need, but you neglected to open the port medieval total war needs. If you had bothered to look at all the posts in the apocethary you would have found that port to be 18321 on TCP and UDP. Just open your network connection, click properties, click the advanced tab, and click settings. Click add and put 127.0.0.1 for the ip of the computer hosting, then put in the port address 18321 for both tcp and udp. That should allow you to host to your hearts content. Now as for my genius that should be self evident. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif
