I've just started modding and I couldn't find the answer to this anywhere. I originally posted in the Entrance Hall, but I've reposted here, because it is about Mods. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/confused.gif

Is it possible to put the viking era into MTW, start out with the VI tech tree, on the MTW map, just restrict the units available to non-VI factions, and let the game progress from the Dark Ages forward? http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/cool.gif

-How do you link the VI tech tree and the MTW tech tree.
-Is it possible to set triggers i.e. After 1066 if you control Normandy and Wessex you get 10000 Florins and x number of units
-I would probably change the start date of the game but I am guessing I could do that in the campaign files.
-And finally, can you edit the glorious achievements for a faction?

I'm not sure where to look for this info or if anybody has posted about it before.

My goal is to create a mod of dark ages Europe where can play as England, France, or the Danes. In a short period of time you can build these factions from the Dark Ages to the Middle Ages on through the conclusion of the game. Basically, make a short Chapter 1, that you play to get the game to where it begins in MTW.

I'm hardly a guru in modding, the other people here know a lot more but I'll answer as I know.

-You could make a mod which started like Viking Era on the MTW map. You would have to decide what factions/units/buildings you wanted for this dark ages era.
-Using the MTW map with its provinces in Britain shouldn't be too hard. There are Welsh/Scottish/Irish mods which already make these as new factions for MTW which could start in the Dark ages.Changing the MTW map to reflect all the little viking factions would be quite hard I think.

-Of course all of the rest of europe would need to be worked out with regards to factions/units etc.

-There is a post which is called Mod 101 I think which describes how to start making a new mod. You then need to make the units and build files as a minimum.

You are looking at quite a bit of work, the files as quite straightforward but very unforgiving for typo's.

There's probably heaps of other things I havn't covered.

-I would suggest something a little less ambitious for a start so you can get a better feel for the time involved.

-specific answers
1. Linking the techs trees- make a new mod then almost any tech tree is possible. IN fact many mods already use some of the Viking tech tree.

2.I don't know of any triggers for money like you describe

3.Don't know about glorious achievements, I think its possible.

4. I've never heard of a mod so far which runs viking era into medieval times.

Thanks for your reply. I know that it is ambitious, however, I have a background in computer programming so I have experienced the errors the niggling errors of a single wrong space or misplaced letter, etc.
