Holy shit, Hunting dogs This game is going to kick ass. Is that the Germanic tribes? Do you think theres any chance the Britons will have them tonight against the Romans in Time Commanders? I sure hope so http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif
Thanks Monk http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wave.gif http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/pat.gif

"Holy shit, Hunting dogs This game is going to kick ass." http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/eek.gif

yeah I was thinking the same thing "holy sh*t hunting dogs" ... those tide turning hunting dogs used at the battle of ... erm... when they turned the flank of... ehh... used by... the... uh... hmmm... http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/mecry.gif

Why even bother trashing the picts weilding their traditional... um... battle axes... when we've got war dogs Thankfully it appears that CA put more time and detail into the dog figures than the horses, because the dog is the more important unit... gotta get it right

Oh, BTW I can tell I'm gonna love the legionairre animations... right out of Sparticus... YAH That's right Erol Flynn sword play with a short STABBING sword... that will look sweet Hopefully they can add in some Chow Yun-fat wire work, cause boy, now THAT is some cool sword fighting...

Is it me or do those odd looking Barbarian Axemen from earlier screenshots and video clips (is it a face or a mask?) look like they've been given a serious artistic facelift? They look fantastic.

Ditto on the 'nix the wardogs' opinion floating around here. If these nasty canines do make the retail release they should be essentially worthless against anything but low skill skirmishers and routing infantry. It's not nearly as bad as the McRamses uniforms of the Egyptian units though.

I could swear reading somewhere that wardogs are actually a 'special attack' for a light infantry unit instead of a dedicated look-at-those-guys-with-their-pooches-on-leashes type unit. I would really hate to see those puppies pop out of nowhere when the AI or human player activates the Special Attack function.

An evil thought just occured to me - every time we set the dogs loose we can do a Mr. Burns impression and say "release the hounds". If RTWs multiplayer has voice communication or user definable audio taunts I can see this one being popular.

Evil thought number 2 - If the dogs run in sync will they cock their leg in sync too? After all there will be plenty of trees....

If RTW is half as moddable as it is supposed to be the dogs can be made to vanish into thin air along with anything else we don't like so I wouldn't worry too much. The dogs could represent a finished unit while the horses are still work in progress, if that is the case the the geegees will look very nice too.

Sorry, they took me quite by surprise, as you read by my post I know hunting dogs probably wouldn't have been at any pitched battles save for the hunting of broken enemies in a rout. But come on, are you telling me it wouldn't look wicked seeing huge hounds attacking Roman Legionaries, biting the ankles of horses. Maybe they will get a causes fear to horses bonus. Anyway it will make me laugh http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/joker.gif http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wave.gif

Frog -- Ur dead on That special dog "synchronized pee attack" will be devastating... I can't wait to see Hanibal leading his war dogs over the Alps to the everlasting shock of the Romans... Yes when I'm armed with body armor, greaves, a big shield, a nasty sword and marching in formation, nothing makes me run in terror like a barking pooch...

"Release the hounds... excellent..." too funny... http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wave.gif

Vanya finds this quite interesting. Clearly they have incorporated the Eastern tactic of using packs of hungry Shih Tzus to storm the enemy ranks. Historically, few opponents could withstand the carnage inflicted by these Asian dogs of war. Their use was eventually discontinued, however, because the ravenous beasts would often turn on their masters if the enemy ranks were not sufficiently "juicy" or "tasty" to their discriminating palates.

lol, at first I thought it was a Photoshop...

now I realize the terrible truth, even with todays training I can't see a unit of 60 dogs effectively attacking an army (medieval army). They'd just turn to bite one another or the other dogs trainers, get distracted by some rabbits running around, just keep tearing up one man they've killed with 10 dogs at a time or run in terror from a stampede of elephants...

not to mention breaking their teeth on armour...

I bet the "dogs of war" can have formations like the wedge and their leader is a great half wolf half dog of power that feasts of elephants.

As long as RTW is easy to change the stats of like MTW I won't mind them.

Dogs? Dogs? The crushing weight of depression threatens to descend upon me. I won't ask why (Because some f&%^%^in bean counter has decided that it will sell). I won't ask when (because I haven't read of a single instance of dogs being used in a mass fashion such as this.

I just hope that the game is moddable to such an extent that someone can remove this evilness from the game.

Sigh

You build "dog" unit. Which probably means the unit general is a "dog". SOOOO... a rebellion ignites throughout the kingdom... lead by a feared general of abysmal loyalty and blessed with uber-dread... AND IT'S A DOG

http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/joker.gif http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/joker.gif http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/joker.gif http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/joker.gif http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/joker.gif

If the rebellion succeeds, you'd have a pooch for emperor Vanya wonders what the dog's influence rating would be in foreign courts? Would foreign leaders try to marry their daughters to the dog to seal alliances? If so, would they consumate the marriage?? http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/pat.gif Would the dog chase after the daughters of local aristocrats if it couldn't find a wife by its mid 20s? WOULD THE DOG LIVE TO BE 56, after which it would fall victim to the RTW 56-year bug? Would the dog have ACUMEN? Would it be a pious follower of the local faith? Could a dog be Pope (if it were MTW...)? Could a dog be elected to office (ie, senator or dictator)?

if u look at the doggie picture all the dogs are coming from 3 units of Bare chested loons which id presume are their "handlers" which would liken the dogs to a special attack - oh and dogs were used by germanic tribes during combat just never like in that pic (they would follow their master around so they would be thinly spread around the battle line and never in the kind of numbers seen in the pic)

Can the pooches roll over and play dead in order to ambush hapless passer-bys? That would be intersting...

Can dogs act as "pointers" to show a general where hidden enemies lie in wait?

Now, all we need is a pic of the flaming pigs
