Yes it is better. But it should still have the quote above it so we know it's a quote.

i find that the lack of contrast does make it hard for me to read them (i`m using a 19 monitor viewed from 3` away).

I don't mind changing it at all. But making it just bold doesn't seem a good alternative to me. It will confuse bold and quote text?

The standard Ikonboard quote is a bit annoying, especially when quoting quoted quotes. Each quote has a box drawn around the text.

There are currently 7 skins. The first three are identical except for the size of the font (it's a bit 'difficult' to make the browser display larger fonts here), the 4th is a remake of the old Sword Dojo skin, the 5th is a lite skin for very slow modems, 6th is one that also displays clanbadges, 7th displays the URLAvatar. All skins except the Sword Dojos, are more or less the same. I see no problem in adding more skins.

Edit ..or updating existing ones.
