Hi guys,

I never played online but I am thinking about it (especially with our Napoleonic mod:)
so can someone answer this?
1. do you need a fast connection or a simple modem is enough?
2. is gamespy free? it looks like it but....

thanks

56k modem is enough to play. Its more a question of how stabile your connection is.

You dont need gamespy arcade to play. But you can use it and its free.

But just ask if you have more questions http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

That is great I am going to try tonight...
So I should be able to play with a netzero connection...

thanks again

What CBR says....

I don't have GS arcade, and am fine... Actually, I even think that to have it can be detrimental (weren't a few ppl running into issues if they did not had the right version?). Once you have registered, log in the game throught MTW, not GS.

To play a mod, you need all players to have it.

You only need a (free) gamespy account that is all...

In fact I strongly suggest you not to use the gamespy arcade software thingy at all, for I have noticed that those who are logged in through GS arcade cannot see those who are logged in through the game, and the last group is by far the largest (and more experienced if i may add)

Yes that is next to the addition of mtw-vi people not being able to see mtw people and otherway round

Thanks Guys,

I logged yesterday successfully...Now I have to reinstall the MTW VI and MTW because I have only the napoleonic mod installed so it was not possible to find players yesterday.

Hi guys,

You know what they say?

"one dumb question leads to another"

So heres mine http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

Napoleonic Mod, how do you go about using it?, is it like a stat swapper tool like 1.02 to 1.03 for stw/mi/we? once you have the mod installed?

As much info as possible please I'm not to good on these things, it took me an hour to install 1.03 and get it to work and that was with Tosa helping step by step http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

It certainly appeals to me, maybe I play you next time LeBob.

No you have to make a copy of your MTW folder and install the Nap mod into the new folder. And then of course run the Medieval_TW.exe from the new folder whenever you want to play Nap.

I have tried it once in MP and it is definitely interesting to play as its very different compared to the more melee oriented game Im used to http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif So go ahead and try it..its free http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif

Yes you should try it

We made completely new units with new rifles and muskets. Infantry, cavalry and cannons are still available but their use have changed a little.
The game is very different from MTW as CBR mentioned.
Plus the campaign part is excellent too (free ad http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif

So I will be online now regularly I think (the week end more often) so if you want a piece of me I am your cuirassier

Lord Le Bob

PS: I would suggest also to keep an eye on the Hellenic mod..men it look so good with those new units DJ is making

He said detail CBR http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

So Kansuke, just to expand a bit on what CBR said:

You'd need to re-install MTW VI to a completely new folder (which means you could still run the original you have installed now, and you wouldn't encounter any problems).

So lets say you have the game installed right now to C:\Program Files\Total War\Medieval-Total War

You could install the game to C:\Program Files\Medieval-Total War and it would be a completely different install, at which point you could then install the Nap Mod.

You just have to make sure you run the proper Medieval_TW.exe depending on what verison you wanted to run. I'd recommend making shortcuts on your desktop for both, and name them something different (like Medieval-Nap Mod) so you keep them seperate.

Heh maybe I didnt do it detailed enough http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

But there is no need to re-install the game. Easier to just copy the whole Medieval - Total War folder. I have 3 MTW versions on my hdd. 2.0, Nap and one for mod work...and I have 1.1 too btw lol

Well alright http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wave.gif That is easier, but if anything goes wrong, CBR is the man to talk to. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/pat.gif But seriously, nothing should go wrong, I always prefer a clean install myself. That way you won't copy all the logfiles and various other stuff you might not need a copy of. But on the otherhand you won't have to reinstall any map packs etc, and logfiles are easy enough to delete....

Hi,

I fired up MTW multi the other day and it said it could not log on to anything. I had thought GameSpy was mandatory and was surprised to read above that it is not.

What should I be doing to connect? Do I need to know server IP's?

Any help appreciated

LadyAnn

You may want to:
1. Click on "Register on Gamespy"
2. fill in online name, email address and password. Remember all three, because you need to enter exactly as you entered on gamespy account. Click Finish when done registering;
3. Return to MTW, click on "Play on Gamespy".
Then enter the info exactly as you have noted on step2. Also enter your CD Key, which must be done again exactly as printed on your CD's cover or on your manual.

4. Then you will be able to connect from the game.

There is another way of launching the game: by using the gamespy interface (not to confuse with the Gamespy registration webpage). Connecting through the game is best.
