View Full Version : Creative Assembly Campaign Editor
Dragon2003

My Program 'Campaign Editor' (CampEd for short) is close to it's first release. Not all the features are completed yet but in version 1.1 i hope to include everything that i want in the program.
I urgently need a BIF editor, but i cannot download from 3ddownloads.com I get to 5 in the queue then i am forced to 60 again http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/mad.gif
Could someone email the BIF editor to molem001@medway.org.uk
What the program helps people do, is create a full campaign (the type of campaign that goes in the campmap\startpos folder for you experts) and to try and minimize as many of the crashes that happen as possible.
Normally when i make a campaign, MTW crashes and i find out after hours of debugging later that i made one tiny spelling mistake on Egyptian
This program will also help new people to modding as all they need is to be able to type and click boxes, etc.
If you want to go onto advanced modding, you could always edit the borders and region settings instead of using the default ones.
I hope this program will help everyone (New people and Experts) in modding and i hope it will encourage more and more people to modding M:TW.
Here are some screenshots in Visual Basic 6.0:

on the top right of your post, there should appear a DELETE EDIT QUOTE line.
if it doesn't it may be due to your junior patron status. if it does just click on EDIT and u'll be able to modify your post.

Thnaks for the demo, short and sweet, very nice interface, this will make 1 click modding very easy for begginners and speed things up for the experienced, I like what I see so far, and hope you can include a version for VI2.0 keep up the good work, I was able to navigate to the set region owner in less than 5 minutes setting up all the pertinent info along the way very nice, cant wait to see the finished product. Thanks, I do not have Vikings Invasion yet, but i am definitely going to get it http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif Maybe when the price drops down on the internet or when my dad is feeling less stingy then usual i will nag him to buy it for me http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif
Since i have Shogun (and am ordering Warlords) i will see what i can do about a STW CampEd.

Excellent... if it turns out to be user-friendly enough for pseudo-luddites like myself, it would allow for the possibility of adding in campaigns for the Hussite revolts...
When the VI added the magyars, did they include the Nicopolis campaign?

Yes, i am trying to make it as user-friendly as possible http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif

it sais: windows cannot open this file
File: CampEdDemo
To open this file the windows needs to know what program created it. Windows can go online to look it up automatically, or you can manually select from a list of
programs on your computer.
What do youwant to do?
- Use the web service to find the appropriate programm
- Select the program from a list
And in the properties of the filie it sais type of the programm: file

Can you run other files? Like Minesweeper or solitaire?
What version of windows do you have? 98? ME? XP?
If windows needs to know, then i created it in Microsoft Visual Basic 6.0. But i don't think that will help.
If you can run minesweeper then try reinstalling windows, i think this will solve your problem.

Could you run minesweeper? as thats important.
Also could you post a screenshot of exactly what the error is. I am on windows ME and i haven't heard that error before. But i think that i have a good idea to whats wrong.
The key thing is if minesweeper or solitaire works

Well i have no homework today so i got a few hours of pure programming. I see no reason why it shouldn't be released tonight, but i will be uploading my demo (it has more 'pages' then the one i sent in the demo to the beta soon).
Dragon2003
09-17-2003, 17:10
OK, i have uploaded the beta and i am INCREDIBLY CLOSE to releasing the real thing
List of things left to do before i release:
1) Allow user to delete ownerships of regions.
2) Allow user to delete titles.
3) Allow user to set faction leader start province
4) Allow user to set all that rubbish below:
eg:
SetStartLeader:: FN_BYZANTINE 6 1 4 8 4 3 11 2 2
SetStartLeader:: FN_EGYPTIAN 4 1 1 1 1 2 1 1 1 SetStartLeader:: FN_ENGLISH 8 3 2 1 1 2 1 2 1
Can someone help me with this. What do the numbers mean?
5) Allow user to add/remove heirs
6) Allow user to add/remove units
7) Allow user to add/remove buildings
8) Allow user to add/remove agents
And i think that is it. This won't take me long
Dragon2003
09-17-2003, 17:30
Not long to wait. Im excited too Yes it is a VB app as thats more user friendly I am not sure it will work with STW, but i doubt it, but you never know I might just make one for STW and RTW as well

well its quite a good tool indeed, though i was expecting a little more. Its still very hard to have your own custom maps, which is what i would really like to see an editor make use of. I know that is perhaps the hardest thing to do, but when someone does that, the possibilites are endless, by combinging this with the LMM maker, and creating whole new campagins should really make the most powerful tool to date

This is just a thought. I know it's really hard to let go
something like this.
Nevertheless, awesome job

I really think that releasing source code would help this a lot, but i am worried about pirates (ok ok, enough of the OohArgh me mateys ) http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif
I have released source code before and unfortunately, people abused my kindness.
This project is hard work. I have had multiple OUT OF MEMORY problems now and it is just annoying me. I have ultimately decided to go down my origional route, and i am going to keep the editor simple... So that means no more will you be able to edit borders or whatever.
If you really want the desire to edit borders (and i cant see why you would) then you will have to edit it manually.
I'd like to end this on a good note and i want to thank Gregoshi for pinning this.
My website (http://uk.geocities.com/mole_mr/Index.html) is up and also the simple version is being released not far from now (maybe tomorrow).
That is lookin very nice so this means you can make anyone playable? Isnt there a short amount you can make playable or else it crashes?
Dragon2003

Yes you can make any one playable. And if you edit some of the files in LOC\ENG folder then you will be able to rename factions But that is advanced stuff

I WOULD think that simply editing the text file is good enough, and that its not worth creating an editor for this. BUT, I think this would be really cool, because when I edit startpos files, when I make simple changes, with no spelling or syntax mistakes, it still makes my game crash often. Its frusturating (For example I'll change a province's income from 500 or 600, or whatever, and that will make my game 100x more likely to crash)

I understand where you are coming from, but (IMHO) as this is merely a hobby group what exactly is the point in NOT providing source code.
I, for one, am certainly reluctant to install and use third party software IF the source code is not provided and it is from a source (person/company) that I'm not familiar with.
Pirates? Abuse? Kindness?
We, who try to provide such Adhoc utilities/tools for gaming communities, are only labouring under the same constraints as companies do. Iwould suggest us hobbyists have a lot less to lose from pirates or plagerism that such companies do. Also, what the hell's the point of providing such tools as a hobby IF you don't show equally interested parties (via source code) just how you've done it?
I would think a Licence, included in the download, should be sufficient. If people wish to copy your work then what can you do?
Just the way the world (er ... people) works ...

Just tested it lastnight...ITS GREAT http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/bigthumb.gif
Only one thing went wrong...tried to play as pope, making each faction start only with one province, created no units (think it was my mistake), and the popes Knights unit (leader unit) appeared. Offcourse a rebbellion broke out on my 2 or 3 year, and when it came to the battle that unit appeared has allied (?). Needless to say I lost. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/mecry.gif

Hi I am Dragon2003, but as a different username as i forgot my original one (and i now remember it http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/angry.gif )
I have started up the CampEd project again, even though i met great difficulty last time. I have learnt from my mistakes and am well underway. I am currently modding the Treasury part so - nearly there ;)
On my website (click the link on my signiture) i have included a modding tutorial, one of my campaigns Modern Warfare and a useful modding tool: Colour Maker.
Soon my CampEd will be up as well
Hi I'm both new in the game and in the Forum, so forgive me if i'm posting a message not apropriate for this topic.
I don´t know if any of you have ever heard about the game Legend of the Five Rings. It´s an unique universe with a rich story, based on japonese-samurai age, created to be played as a Card Game, but has grown up to RPG products and else.
Anyway, the Total War engine would be perfect to be used in the to develop of a campaing mode or even an expansion pack run in this setting.
My question is: Is it possible to use your Campaing Mod to addapt the STW game so it can be played in the LOFR scenario? To do that we would need to change tha map and regions to the same as Rokugan (LOFR world), change the factions to the clans from the game (Lion, Dragon, Crab...), and make so minor changes to characters names so it would match those in the Card Game.
What do you think?
