View Full Version : I just hate the AI!
I just played a game as hungarian.
In the battle i just played i had one army with only szekely and some mounted crossbowmen.
The french had a few templars and a SH*T-LOAD of spearmen and arhcers... now im talking 7000+ men against my about 640 men.
I defended a bridge, a single bridge. The result was me winning the battle with alot of cassualti, and the french guy lost avout 6000 of his.
What tactics did the ai use? well i just kept throwing his men at me, and they kept getting killed cus he never organised them and they just kept on attack one and one.
At one time i was thinking of quit playing cus i was screaming at the computer when the french reinforcement kept coming.
I reallt hope that in RTW the Ai know when he lost a battle, or atleast try some other tactic.
You should know that this kind of a battle keep happening to me, and im getting really bored now and stopped playing singleplayer. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/pissed.gif http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/angry.gif http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/mad.gif http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/redface.gif

Do you play on expert?
And do you play GA ot TD?
AFAIK its a big difference between GA and TD.
And the AI usually stinks at bridgebattles, but luckely(for you i like bridgebattles) its not too many in every campaign...
The AI is at its 'intellectual best' on the Hard level of difficulty. Expert level only serves to increase starting florins for the AI controlled factions and gives their units a huge bonus in morale during on the battlefield.

Spino...
How big is "huge'? I thought it was only two morale.

Snohobbit,
What is this difference between GA & TD? I have usually only played TD as GA was broken and most games seemed to degenerate in domination anyway. I didn't notice the AI play any different in battles???
I played GA on hard... http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wacko.gif

Oh...
I thought that the AI was somewhat more intelligent on GA
but maybe that was only the strategical AI...
The difference is that the AI is supposed to be more intelligent...
although it still doesent want any ceasefires if its about to get destroyed...
I think it's more than that ShaiHulud. I think the AI gets a morale boost of 2 on Hard level and 4 or more on Expert level. I'd do a search here in the Org to be sure. If I'm wrong let us all know.

Yes the AI gets 4 morale on expert. It means their peasants can be deadly in early game lol. It is a big advantage, but can be overcome by superior tactics on the battlefield.
I dont think AI gets any morale bonus on Hard, I could be wrong.

The only real difference I find as you go from Normal to Expert is that you have to "escort" units more vigorously after they break. If there is one thing I hate about this game its having to convince 5 arbelasts that the battle really is over http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/tongue.gif

Vanya has seen on many an occasion where an enemy chose to retreat his remaining units and reinforcements rather than continue to lose men in a hopeless cause.
Vanya sez... when you see the enemy pigdog start to pull away, send forth your cav at full speed to nab a few extra prisioners. With luck, you can rake in several hundred

Lazul, the original poster, has a valid point. Bridge battles at least should be possible to fix or tweak in RTW. Personally, I would not be sorry to lose them at all: they often play a little cheesily. For me, one big advantage of MTW over STW is that bridge battles are less strategically important.
On the other hand, I have lost some bridge defences I thought I should win (more often in STW, IIRC)... so I can't complain too much.

being able to wade through rivers should reduce bride battles a bit in RTW anyway.
I actually like bridge battles but I agree the AI does not handle them well at all. Lost count the number of times the AI will ignore second bridge, on both attack and defense.

My guess is that the AI counts men. It probably puts in some modifiers for terrain (like bridges) but all in all it is just down to men. I have 6000, you have 640, I have to win...chocks away, and does not realize until its manpower in below a certain rate, that it has lost.

Vanya sez... practice love, not hate. It is your hatred that has lead the AI down the path of the Dark Side. Perhaps if you love the AI unconditionally, and demonstrate it with selfless acts of generosity and benevolence, then maybe... MAYBE... the AI can be saved and reunited with the children of light.
So, next time you feel the rage boiling your blood, proclaim a timeout, and try to hold a civilized conversation with your AI. Tell it how you FEEL. Share your emotions with the monitor. After a few sessions of laying it all out, you will find the AI's attitude will improve. Before you know it, the AI will be spanking you vigorously, just as you wanted. In fact, if you are REALLY successful, you might even get the AI to get funky and squeal like a pig as it serves up a healthy helpin' of dominating pain.
