Is it possible to disband an army?
I ask because i want to get rid of the musketeers and archebusiers because they are not worth one undredth of what the cost me.
(or maybe I am not using them right, which is quite possible).
At the beginning of the game I was counting on them to make a difference in the battle field but they just don't.
to my great disappointment (and pain) i got routed by the AI rushing with the warrior monks.
The gun troops are too slow, have a slow rate of fire and a short range. If they are facing archers by the time the get to fire the first shot the archers just use them for target practice.
If your are fighting against monks, oh well.
Man, those guys know how to run! they are fast as hell and they turn you into bacon strips faster than you can say 'rout!'
I think I am jsut going to start the game again and ... just go for the monks as soon as I can.
Forget it...

Sadly, you can't "demobilize" troops. They have to be killed in battle.
Whenever I find myself with troops I want to get rid of, I stage a port invasion of the enemy -- even if I'm not prepared for it.
That'll get rid of them.

Hi Yoda!
Maybe you already know this but you can pull off units that you don't want from your army by selecting the army then selecting the unit you want to pull off and dropping them in the same province. Then when they are separated you can banish them to a garrison or put them someplace that needs to improve on loyality.
So you can disband and combine armies at will. Just be careful if you combine 2 high ranking Taisho's you will lose the lower ranker. Have fun.

Infact as you spread across your empire it is useful to have these extra units floating around. You can use your main units to drive forward and leave the feeble ones behind.
But the combine method is good. Try dropping one on top of another if you have one unit of say 20 and one of 38 you will have a new unit of 58. Obviously the combined total must be less than your maximum unit setting (60, 80 or 120)
Mine always appeared to have better range. So try defending them better, get them behind the front line as your enemy draws forward for his main strike.
Hold them at the back and keep firing into enemy. You may suffer some friendly fire losses but overall you should come off much better.

Good suggestions. Thanks guys.
I actually meant to just dump the dumb rifle units because they are useless.
But never mind. I restarted the game, in easy (of course) and as soon as I got out my Monk company (expensive buggers, though), i had trouble keeping up with my progress in the battle field:
1 - they run awefully fast.
2 - they manouver very quickly.
3 - they drop on the enemy units like a ton of bricks. the enemies die like flies. They reduced a unit of 80 Yari samurai to bacon strips in less than 20 seconds. Those guys where decimated before they even knew what hit 'hem. No wonder I was losing against them in the previous game.
4 - they don't give up. Never seen a Monk company panic. They waver but they stand their ground even if the odds are 3 companies to one: in a battle I had hand to hand combat between my monk company versus 2 yari ashigaru and 1 samurai archers companies. Of course my monk company got obliterated but the stood to the last man and by the time they were done the had enough and just ran away (when my second monk company showed up).

How can I build companies of 120 men?
It always defaults to 80 for me.
Thanks

It's in the game settings. Performance options menu, I think.

You are correct, you are not using the guns correctly. They can help you win a battle, but like every unit can not do so by themselves. Although on further consideration, the monks possibly can!
