View Full Version : Is this supposed to happen?
My Owari (Oda) fief was attacked from Kawachii (Mori). How is this possible?
Im pretty sure it was Kawachii. I have
all the fief's adjacient to Owari, it should
of been protected from attack because of that. I dont think Kawachii had a port at
the time, but it could of. Owari had
a port at this time. It could of been
another Mori land with a port, but I dont
think so. Anyone else see this? Patch
fix this one? I installed the warlords
edition with no patch. Thanks
No patch, try playing with it m8 more balanced now!
As for what u ask i dunno?

Did Owari have a Port? If so, you got hit with a Port Attack. Naval invasions can and do occur now - and they are a good thing, although they require you to be a bit more careful of where you build ports.

"A mind is a terrible thing to taste."
Exactly.
Here is what to do for a port invasion:
1) move a strategic unit (emisary, priests, ninjas, shinobi, Geisha) into the target enemy province with a port
2) make sure that the strategic unit survive a turn
3) Then you can move your troops from your own port province(s) to the target province
---------------------------------------
AI does it now in WE.
Human player can always do it, even back in the original STW.
---------------------------------
Some pointers:
Emissaries, Geishas and Priests are visible to the enemy, but CAN'T be caught by border fort and counter spy units.
Shinobi and ninjas are not visible to the ememy, but CAN be caught by the border fort and counter spy units.
------------------------------
Thus here are the ways to counter port invasion:
1) place some anti-spy units (ninja, shinobi, geisha) into your own port city. And/or build border fort. They will catch those dark units: the enemy ninjas, shinobi. Keep in mind that a border fort can only catch ONE spy per turn, it's wise to keep a couple of shinobi around anyway.
2) If an emessary, or priests, or Geisha sneaks in, IMMEDIATELY send your high level Ninjas or Geisha to take him/her down.
If those visible units are of high honor, or if you are facing Geisha (a lot harder to assassinate), make sure that you move a garisson army into that province. Because if the assassination fails, the AI now can port invade.
-----------------------
Note:
1)AI port invasion is still rare and easy to avoid.
2) human port invasion might make the game too easy.
The AI will only defend one of it's own provinces via port, but will never open an attack that way. I've seen a thousand men appear in a province I'd planned to take, and none were in the adjacent territories just beforehand. Maybe I'm wrong, but in a thousand games, I've never seen an AI port attack.

First time i was caught by an AI port invasion was the first time I was 3 Provinces away from being shogun 1 of the units in Hizen (had a port) managed to get to Echigo (which also had a port) since most of my men had been killed in a battle (VERY VERY big battle lost 2000 men but Imagawa lost 3000 heh) I had no men in that are they left a path of devestation...

AI does conduct port invasion. I have seen it with my own eyes.
Are port invasion strictly fair if the computer cannot do them? It seem to me its a cheap way to break their front by going around it lol. If the AI could do it this would be more interesting as I have never seen the AI do a port invasion.
