Hi to everybody http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

Finally after some problems with Ikonboard I can post http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

I usually post in the .com forums , but I decided to come over here for all the info I can gather on modding .

I already contacted Wellington a couple of times via mail http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/tongue.gif but I have far too many questions to distract him from his mods.. so I'm going to ask you, o k ?

I'm sorry if this questions have been answered before on this boards, I'm still a n00b here so cannot move very well but it seems to me there is no search option , right ?
I've already looked in all the sticky threads and all the n00b-threads but i could not find what i was looking for...

On with the questions :
For my first post here I'm going to keep things light and easy to answer.. i hope, and by the way , before starting let me apologize if my english is ofter quite rubbish.

Gnome Editor

There are various issues with this seemingly easy to use editor (but I must say I'm rubbish)...

1) What is the exact meaning of Column 11 Rebelling Troop mixes this unit can belong to ?

2) What is Column 12 supposed to mean Ruler ID Troop advantage ?

3) Why in Column 20, the Bulgarian Brigands (Row 19) have no entry whatsoever ?

4) And Column 26 , the Samurai yes\no .. what the hell is that ?

5) There are some incongruencies in Column 51. For instance, the Alan Mercenary Cavalry have two entries : Georgia and Khazar.. this should refers to the possibility to raise the specified unit (AMC in this case) only in the provinces shown here.. but AMC aren't a merc.only troop ?
The same goes for the Saharan Cavalry.. if I remember correctly they receive a bonus if raised in Cyrenaica... but Cyrenaica is not among the provinces supposedly able to raise SC ....

6) In column 50 , which as far I can go , is linked to Column 54 there are some entries that befuddle me.. let's take CK and Lancers as examples...

It is stated that Lancers are reserved only to the Spanish and the Aragonese, ok, but Column 54 is empty, thus meaning that they can be raised even by non-chatolic factions.. but on the other hand they cannot be hired as mercs.. for the last column of the Gonme is empty.... so why is not specified they are Catholic reserved ?
On the other hand CK are reserved to All Factions, so theoretically even the muslims could raise CK... but Column 54 says they are reserved for Catholic factions only... which makes sense.
I had thought that the presence or not of an entry in Column 54 meant essentially the possibility to hire a specified unit even by factions of another religion; in fact Saharan Cavalry are reserved only to Almos and Egyptians (row 50), they have no entries for religion (row54) and can be hired as mercs. (row71).. even by Italians (for instance) this is ok, but some units have strange entries here and there , entries that makes no sense to me....

7) It is possible to make a unit fearful of anyother units around.. or it does require some special work to be done ?
I wanted to make every unit (apart the professionals) scared to death by berserkers.. in a similar way as Camels scare Horses.

8) even two more mysterious Columns : 14 and 26.. what's their purpose ?

9) Is it really for cosmetic purpose only Column 58 ? (not the column in itself clearly http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/tongue.gif )

10) Back to Column 50 :
a) some units does not have an entry, why ? Units like Pictish Cavalry, Sherwood Foresters, Slavs and some other... I thought that Slavs for instance were available to everyone.. while the Sherwoods were Rebel only (and some units DO have a rebel entry for them....)
b) there are at least 4 units with a NO_FACTION entry... why ?
c) An EARLY VARANGIAN GUARD ????? eh ? I've never seen it.. and the documents that came along with VI didn't mentioned it either... how come ?

Ok for now.. let me know (I'm sure you will http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/tongue.gif ) if this answers could be found somewhere else, I cannot do much except apologize to everyone..

Bye now

ok i will do my best

1.) this means, should a rebellion spring up, then that kind of unit will be in it. for instance, if it says Cath_loyalists that means in a catholic faction, should a loyalist rebelion accure then there's a chance this unit will apear in that army

2.) Ruler ID advantage refures to bonuses some factions get on certain units, bonuses are simple such as lower support cost or lower training cost

3.) my guess is so they could be an entirely mercenary Unit, but i havnt tried to train them in any other way either. If you wish u could just enter ALL_PERIODS and the problem would be solved

4.)Not even i know that http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/joker.gif

5.)Yes they are a merc only unit, i am not entirely sure why those are lsited there but AMC can be recruited pretty much anywhere along the steppes.

5.b) SC can be trained in all sand desert provinces, therefore they are avalible in Cyrenaica (or however u spell it)

6.) when it says ALL FACTIONS then says CATHOLIC that means all factions which follow the catholic religion can train them. Do not worry, Lancers can only be trained by Aragon or Spain, and as far as i know there is no way Muslim forces can get them (outside a merc which is rare indeed)

7.)indeed it is, collum 65 deals with that, just enter the name of the unit you want them to be fearfull of. not sure if it works as i have never myself tried it but it is supposed to work as camels are listed for knights there.

8.) left over from STW i beleive, not really used in MTW as far as i know

8.b) ties in with Projectile states file, if the unit is a ranged unit this specifies what they shoot.

9.)not sure what you mean, but collum 58 deals with how the unit forms up in formations. You cant really expect Highland clansmen to be organized in perfect rows now can you?

10.)Some units were left over from the VI campaign and therefore do not have any faction label since they are out of date in the reg campaign, while others were modded into the game for Rebel only purposes, to give the game an even harder edge.

10.c) yes an EVG modding is req for these guys, look for a similiar topic about them here at the EH and you will find steps to put em in.

Thats all my friend http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wave.gif

Hi Arjen,

Nice to see you finally got 'into' The Org.

Just one comment. STOP SAYING YOUR ENGLISH IS RUBBISH Your English is very good indeed

There is a Search facility at The Org. Problem is you may not know what to search for if your new to modding. Still, after a few days Greg or Kukri will promote you and you can ask whatever modding Q's you wish in the Dungeon.

Have fun

Welly

Thanks Monk for your quick and exaustive reply http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

However some issues still remain unclear.. for I've always thought that the crusader_prod_11 contained all the possible info on units and their whereabouts.

You say that Saharan Cavalry can be raised in every desert province.. ok, but this piece of info can be obtained just by browsing throught the C_P_11 file ?

1) Cleared

2) Cleared

3)\5) As I said before, if I was to make a guess using solely the CP11 file I would have said that :
AMC were available(to train) to each faction, but only in Khazar and Georgia, plus they can be hired as mercs. by either a Catholic, Muslim, Orthodox or Pagan faction.
Instead we know that they are only mercs... this informations seem to be in conflict to eachother..
The same goes one for the BB, actually I cannot recall if they are mercs only.. or not. but either way there are two possibilities :

a) they are mercs. only just like AMC, even if restricted only to 4 factions (Poles, Hungarians, Byzs and Russians); if this is the case, their entries for column 51 are different than the one for the AMC, and this should not be since they are similar units (only mercs); plus they have a bonus Province , Bulgaria, while the AMC have not got one. BUT they do have 2 provinces listed as CONDITIONS to raise them... my only guess, if someone could confirm or dismiss this I would be pleased is that AMC can be raised like a normal unit in Georgia and Khazar... this would make sense after all.

b) They are a normal troop.. but in this case as well they have some different entries than other troops.

4) ok http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

6) As said for 3) and 5) , it is strange to me that there are some incongruencies in the CP11 file..

7) Cleared

8) Which of the two columns is linked to projectile stats ?
I was referring to :

Column 14 Dojo advantage modifier
Use Label ( must correspond to Labels used for buildings )
If you leave this field blank you will never be able to build this unit.

and

Column 26 Stats and general info about this trooptype
Labels(values)
This column is linked from Linked To workshet, which is itself linked to the summary and unit def sheets. Please edit the factors there

DOH Damn... http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/eek.gif I realize now I asked you two times for the same Column... errrr... (point 8 and 4)

9) Obviously not http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif but I was referring to the Column description in the Gnome itself, it says :

Affects how evenly spaced the troops are in formation. Cosmetic only. Default is POORLY_FORMED.
Enum
PERFECTLY_FORMED
FORMED
POORLY_FORMED
UNFORMED

It says cosmetic only, thus I was wondering.... http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/tongue.gif

10) Why did CA put in a unit ... which need to be modded to be made playabe ? http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/confused.gif

Anyway, as before something is a little unclear to me :

In the manual it states that Viking Huscarles are available to ALL FACTIONS, only in EARLY period and only in DENMARK, NORWAY and SWEDEN. In the CP11 there is no All Faction entry .. why ?

In the manual Sherwood Foresters are available only for the REBELS and only in MERCIA, no time period is specified so they should be available forever gamewise.
In the CP11 file the have no FN_REBEL entry, they are located only in Mercia.... and , oh man...., they are restricted in High and Late period... (if even the manual's wrong... http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/mecry.gif )

The last example is a correct one, Khazar Royal Whatever, only for Rebels, and the CP11 file has a nice FN_REBEL entry for them, they are located only in Khazar, ok, and are free to roam the land in every period.. that'ok as well.

As you can see, KRC , SF and VH have different entries in the CP11 file even if they are supposed to work in the same way... this is the reason I find it so confusing to mod anything at all... http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/dizzy.gif

Well, again thank you Monk for your time http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wave.gif

And HEY Hi Welly I'm happy to see you too http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif Right now I'm still trying to figure out the meaning of all these smiles.. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif
