i am rather new to the game and have maybe stupid question about crusades - in campain mode once i create a crusade i need to drop it on province of destination and pay the pope to get his permision.

what i suppose to do after that?

if i do nothing, crusade just sits in the province i created it and do absolutely nothing.

if i move it manually province after province, i can choose the path but some provinces are not available to move through them. why??

in game's manual it says that when pope gave his permision to the crusade, i can drop it once again on the province of destination and it will move there automaticaly and will choose the path by itself.

the problem is that after pope permision i cant drop it on the province of destination because its not highlighted anymore.

plz advise what to do - i really starting to be obsessed about this thing.

besides, this game rocks - simply best strategy game i ever played. i have viking expansion too. great game - many happy gaming hours for me... http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wave.gif

thx in advance for help. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

You just have to move your crusade province after province to its destination. You cant move it to any province you want because you are limited to only those regions that make the shortest way. It is good idea to start crusade in a province where you have a port - because provided that you have secured sea connection to the destination of your crusade - it will get there in 1 year (you will have to move your crusade yourself ofcourse). Any other questions about crusades? http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/cool.gif

once you create your crusade lift the crusade icon and several of the neighbouring provinces will turn white, these are provinces that you can move your crusade into.

you are restricted to choosing from those highlighted only, so you can`t make your own path in that regard.

so you go ahead and place your crusade in one of the highlighted provinces for that turn.

next turn you pick up the crusade icon as before and you will be presented with highlighted provinces again, they will usually go in the general direction of the target province.

as i have never tried it automatically i can`t say if that works or not, the manual can be wrong sometimes

if you do it manually you can move your crusade into another nations provinces and steal their troops which is a crafty move to do if you plan on attacking them a few turn later. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

watch out for their crusades moving through you provinces as they can reduce the manpower of all units present in that province. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/frown.gif

also moving through provinces with high zeal boosts the number of people who volunteer for the crusade.

if you have questions, don`t be afraid to ask, there is usually someone about to help. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wave.gif

Good question Dedmoroz, I was wondering the same things. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif Now perhaps somone can answer another question for me. Why does the AI sometimes put a low piety general in charge of the crusade? Is there anyway to change this once the crusade has started, ie: assasinate the general? I have had some crusades with a low piety general, that, even though they started well in high zeal provinces, as soon as they hit a orthodox or muslim province the man power starts droping dramatically. Where as a crusade with a high piety general, especially one with the zeal virtue, never sees such a rapid drop in men.

good question, my crusade generals are mostly high piety, but if the low piety general is giving you problems, find a non-crusade unit you have that have more STARS AND PIETY and let it join the crusade , the head of that unit will become the new general of the crusade

Greetings dedmoroz. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wave.gif Thanks for coming by.

I've not tried an automatic crusade, but thought what you said was the right way to do one. There must be something missing from the picture, but I can't think of what it is. (This is a lot of words just to say I don't know) http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/rolleyes.gif

hey guys,

thx for the answers http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

i guess manual was wrong after all about automatic crusades so it needs to be moved province after province each year.

not a big deal though, just a little bit more micro and that's all.

by the way, my crusade failed (i played last night)and it did lots of problems to me - unreast in some provinces, i was attacked by french (i am playing spanish early eages)and some really bad V&V to my king.

now i am struggling to hold my best provinces and hoping for good.

cant wait to get home from work to try and safe my empire... arghhhhhh
