Thank's in advance

PERSONALLY, I use them as spearmen, as I think that they use spears, are slightly more expensive to build and have slightly better morale.

Fyrdmen are an upgrade of spearmen as far as I know. Better morale and, possibly, better attack.

The only drawback is that they can only be built in the early period and in England.

Correct ?

Fyrdmen cost 50 more, +1 attack, +2 morale, early era only and slightly higher upkeep.

I normally go with Spearmen on the Defensive.

Fyrdmen are basically an Early version of Feudal Sergents... They share practically the same stats and the same cost.

Given that the English can train these guys before enemies gain access to Feudal Sergents, it does give them a good early advantage (that can be well used against those French) http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif

As the Emperor says, the Fyrdmen's stats are identical to Feudal Sergeants and so definitely are preferred to vanilla spearmen.

Although seemingly redundant, it probably still pays the English to go for Feudal Sergeants in the long run - as you can only train fyrd in Britain and so can never get the weapon upgrades from the metalsmiths you can build in the continental provinces with iron (eg Navarre).

@ All

I'm now able to build in Ireland the Celtic Warrior unit. Are this guys good? Or should I build, as I used to do in 1.1 build the Gallowglass-warriors there?

I love Fyrds in Viking era games. They eat horsies for lunch.
