I was playing MTW last night and I realized that something was missing, namely bards, minstrils, and travelling bands of actors. They were an important part of life in the Middle Ages and were important sources of information about other parts of the world and current events.

I thought it would have been cool to have them serve as imperfect spies and shields for assasins. If you let them into your province you might get some information, part of the map revealed, a look at your neighbors army stacks, but the information could be dead-on, distorted, or completely wrong, depending on the tellers. Also, maybe you could let your assasins tag along with them, incognito of course, and that could help them get around border forts. It would add an element of risk to letting them in. They also might reduce the zeal of a province, given the middle ages suspicion of actors as people of low moral quality. Who knows a prince or princess might run off with them too.

Maybe it's something that could be modded into a game, but it would be tough, since it would involve creating an entirely new agent type. What do people think about the addition or absense of travelling entertainers?

I like the idea but imho they should not be under rulers control... just let them travel around the map at will and be a general nuisance http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif
(probably this can't be modded in the game, but still...)

Vanya: that quote made me think of Bergman's "The Seventh Seal"... maybe we should also have Death roaming on the map, killing people and playing chess with the generals http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/eek.gif
