wow 21, Few points i've noticed...

*not all 21 are playable, atleast 2 i noticed are not (senate, Rebels)

*Each faction has a starting capitol city, and a number of settlements

*Each faction has a starting navy and army (clearly weak)

*Each Faction has a starting number of Family members (my guess is heirs)

*As always you see a description of the faction, the house of Julie's reads as followed;

"The House of Julie start in Northern Italy, They are the front guard of Rome and Have been given the Task of conquoring Central Europe."

*Campaign difficulty is set in a drop down window

*Battlemap difficulty is set in a drop down window

-Campaign and Battle difficulty are chosen seperatly.

*The map is Huge (sorry i had to say that http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif ) bigger than MTW's but based around the same area.

That's a short review of the Pic http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wave.gif

Me I'm really disappointed to see CA combined the Achaean and Aetolian Leagues into a single faction (the Greeks). I suppose it's no surprise why they did that; name recognition, mass market appeal and all that (the same reason why they labeled the Ptolemaic Empire 'Egypt' ). Anyway I think that would be a good starting point for a mini-mod. However, I think my first impulse would be to first play a few campaigns and battles and then take a look through the unit and weapon files to see what needs tweaking.

Spino, i argee, the GreekVSGreek wars are a huge bit of ancient "total war" themselves... But wasn't they united under macedonian rule at that time?

The currency is in denarii and you can tell how much cash you get at the start of the campagin before you reach the map. Nice

Now we have some faction icons/colours we can begin to identify the units in the screen shots better, for example the white guys are Carthage.

A big thank you goes the person(s) responsible for the seperate difficulty levels. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/pat.gif

There is an economic victory Thank Jupiter Hope it improves on the GA mode of MTW.

So there are 20 factions and 12 are playable from the off. Playable factions are:
Confirmed
1.Rome Julii
2.Rome Brutii
3.Rome Scipio
4.Macedonians
5.Carthage
6.Germans
My guesses
7.Britain
8.Egypt
9.Gaul
10.Spain
11.Selucids
12. Greek

I'm surprised nobody have mentioned the line of icons to the left of the map.

They look like rings above heads (skulls?)... Difficulty perhaps? Or just placeholders for something? Though I can't believe that as what could that be and it looks finished there.

The movie running in the background is once again going to be a shadow-play, and from the looks of it it will be fairly good. At least as good as the ones we know (STW and MTW). This one also features an eastern archer and a spearman, something the others have lacked.

About the faction selection itself. The first faction icon on the second row looks like an eagle, the Roman emblem. So it is fair to say it is the Senate, and the Senate is not playable, thus all factions, playable and unplayable are shown I think. Just so we can get a little view of what resources they start out with.

RisingSun
09-21-2003, 22:12
I dunno. Maybe you can be the senate in the late period or something, and you still get orders from the ACTUAL senate, but maye you are the people who are supposed tostop any usurpers of power??? Or maybe it is all playable + non-playable factions, even though it doesnt make sense why they would have them on the faction seletion screen.

Well back in STW they showed rebels on the Faction seletion screen, when you clicked on them you saw where they were scattered and got a brief desciption on how they couldn't be played as they were without a single leader.

Maybe thats just what CA did here, showing you where everybody is so you can get a good start.

GAH

Uh, no sorry. When Vanya takes the head of a priest, Vanya will nail a little "halo" over the head once He has shrunken it down to size. Clearly what youz was looking at was a collection of heads being processed from Vanya's recent adventure against a band of religious monks of some sort.

You see, Vanya rode in to some dusty town under the Tuscan sun to get Himself a warm cappuccino and visit The Scene. Well, the waiter, a monk, was a tad snooty and "unhelpful" to say the least. When Vanya demanded His money back, the yellow waiter and his monk buddies started chanting in some weird language. Vanya pondered what was the meaning of this gobbledeegook, but concluded that they were not likely expressing praise and worship to their god and Horseman. So, Vanya cut ALL their heads off.

Afterwards, Vanya had some local artisans nail some fine 24K gold rings, er "halos", over the shrunken heads of these bastards... after all, they were monks.

So there you have it. Now youz know what youz was looking at.

GAH

But Vanya, did you check to make sure they had webbed hands before you chopped their heads off?

Strange, when I pointed that out months ago, nobody seemed interested...

Another thing I saw somewhere else: on a campaign-map picture, we see the term 'minor city'. It seems that there are different types of cities.

Hey, since it includes the mid-east now, we all can make illegal, immoral invasions of Iraq now when we're playing Republican Rome http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/joker.gif

Regarding the House of Jules on the screen, they're the 'Front Guard of Rome' and yet they have '0 armies'???

Or is that just a blurry 9? (in which case, count the number of mysterious gold icons at the top left)

it seems to me that the northern europe is smaller compare to Med, but that's probably due to so little roman activities in northern europe. i hope that will be more than 5 provinces in africa. i don't want a bigger version of marccoco for instance.

You're given missions, which you can accept, but I can't see the senate appointing you armies. At least, I hope not, because that would be seriously boring and rubbish.

How can be Spain a faction name ? Spain is a modern concept, ... why not "iberian people" or something more realistic ?.

Sjakihata

because people, except Spaniards and people who know their history have no clue what Iberia is/was. Hence if it is called spain they will know and it makes it easier for them -> more sales.

Thats not all that I mean I sugest that at the beginning we are issued armies till we establish a triumph or something like that, that will allow us to start building.
I dont fid it to fun either but seing that you have no army my geuss is that

Not really appointed armies, but I think an interview or preview, stated that you could perhaps earn a few special units if you performed the mission to the Senate's satisfaction. Like getting Praetorians for instance.

I like both ideas, but I think the Devs will probably go with Kraxis method. Mind you, Scipio's would give the game more of a storyline feel...

Personaly I think it is a cool idea to have the senat theire but their should be a way to be the romans but not have to go through all those boring things like getting approval by the senate etc but I like the idea of mini campaigns
