View Full Version : Germany's invisible fleet
Situation, Alhomad late campaign (FUN!http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif. I always make sure there are no ships at all around my borders, I sink everything that comes near. So I was pretty surprised when the germans made a amphibious crusade atack on marroco, since they didn't have ANY ship in the mediteranian. Someone had a similar experience?

AFAIK, there are two possibilities that can explain this.
1) They used the ships of a faction that let them pass through their lands.
2) They invaded by the Atlantic coast instead of the med. sea

I've never had experienced anything like that, but always look on the bright side - the game can surprise you - I wish I had similar surprises (or at least any http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/rolleyes.gif ).
If the crusade came via Gribralter it didn't need ships. If you look at your campaign map there is a brown line that connects Gibralter and Morocco, the same is between Flanders and Wessex, and there is one in Italy, it basically makes the sea passage just like crossing the land borders between provinces. It's very annoying. If you want to protect yourself from constant invasion you have to control the provinces on both sides of the sea bridge.
I think that it is supposed to reflect the historic ease with which you could make those ocean crossings, they are in reality very short and easy, as compared to sicily to naples. It makes the game more challenging because if you want to control it you have to invade another faction's territory, Flanders/Wessex for the French/English, etc.
