Roman camps are important as they did influence battles / Roman tactics.
The question is - will these be in R:TW.
I am still disappointed about the exclusion of the physicall modeling of the pilum - although we are told that the "effects" will be modeled.
OK - I guess I can live w/ that. But a ROME:TW w/o Roman camps would be getting close to an oxymoron.

where's that come from Barkhorn. I could live without the camps but legions without pila sounds decidedly silly. THey seem to have htem in hte screen shots of the hastati etc.
why do you say that, Catiline? I consider camps rather important. As to the pila, I saw it pretty clear in the screenshots from TC.

i'd rather have both. but htis is a game about battes ultimately, and if you've got legions you need Pila. Marching camps are important, but hey don't win battles.
IIRC, sometimes those camps really did helped in winning.

I got that info. from a post at TW.com. I am pretty sure it was a dev. post - but - I can't be sure as the search feature there is pretty weak.
I hope I'm wrong believe me.

The Pilum will be in the game for post Marian Reform Legionaries and Hastati.
When Legionaries/Hastati are preparing for melee engagement they will have the Gladius in their hands.
When closing to throw their pilum they will have the pilum in their hand.
For a number of reasons, Roman troops won't have their pilum visible while they are holding their swords or vice versa
I hope this clears up any questions. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

Yes that does clear it up - and in the good sense
I apologize for passing on what must have been an ill informed rumor.
It's 2 for 2 on the coolness meter in this thread.

Perhaps by pillum modelling they meant showing the metal portion bend and struck shields sag under the weight?
I am drooling over this game.
