In fact there are 3 tricks and 2 questions.
Ok, I am not sure how many people are aware of those, here goes :
1.When feeling trapped between pesky crusades and the threat of excommunication in case of refusal to let them through, just aim for the originating province, the loss of the chapter house is a very efficient way to get rid of a crusade.
2. In battle deployment, to avoid having the cavalry units taking 1st place in your carefully arranged reinforcement queue, just put an unit you DONT want in your initial army deployment and replace it manually on the tactical map screen with an INFANTRY unit you have put first in the queue.
This cancels the cavalry first bug.
2bis. A more cheesy trick is to use the ability of artillery units to be individually placed on the map in an attack scenario and to use the replace button to place a non artillery unit in its place, it is time consuming and somewhat petty, but whatever floats your boat....
Now my questions :
1.What are they saying ? I mean the little guys in your units, they seem to shout gibberish whenever shooting or receiving orders, I am very curious to know what they exactly yell, even if it is meaningless, I would like to know the actual words.
2. When using command line switches ( like -ian ) I can access different factions pressing their number key, the first ten ones in fact, how can I access the 11th and the rest of them ?
Cheers, Gonzalo.

Nice tricks http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif I especially have to try the second one. I sure hope it works
I have no clue about your first question even though i'm pretty sure I've seen some exlanation of the shouting in the forums.
About the second question, if I remember well from the last time I've tried it, the shift+number combination did the trick.
Hope this helps http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wave.gif

Gonzalo, I've not heard of any workaround for the reinforcement bug before. Nice work. Has anyone confirmed this?

To clarify what you must do, the replace it manually is in the battlefield map before you click begin battle, correct? Also, can it be any infantry unit or the specific one you place in the queue on the pre-battle screen?

Oh, and about the gibberish, there is a thread or two in the Main Hall that discussed what they are saying and what languages they are using. As I recall, there are three languages used between all the factions. Try a search of the Main Hall because the topics are quite old.

Hello Gonzalo

If you want to know what your troops are saying, go into the MTW file folders. Look in sounds. Then open battles. Then open orders.

In orders there are separate folders for Arabic, Latin, and Russian.

There you can play the wav files for all the orders. Each one is labelled with its English translation.

Latin is used for Catholics, Arabic for Muslims, and Russian for Orthodox. The Russian/Orthodox thing is particularly strange because it means the Byzantine Greeks speak Russian. Oh well. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wave.gif

For Gregoshi :replace it manually on the tactical map screen with an INFANTRY unit you have put first in the queue.
In other words, you put in the first spot of your queue the infantry unit that will replace the one you discard.
Of course you do this before starting the battle

Thanks for the info on the gibberish.
About the choosing of a faction in -ian mode, the shift key did not help me to take a faction beyond the tenth one.

Latin indeed, hummm, the english accent is spoiling it, in my view.

I've never had the problem of crusades camping in my territories. Guess the A.I. doesnt take to kindly of me getting rid of my peasants and throwing them in there crusades.

YES you can put your own units in another factions crusade or better yet throw in some mercanaries that are basically depleted beyond practical use

Gonzalo, I tried the -ian command line again and it works for me with shift+number (not the numbers in the numeric pad).

If I may guess I would say that you probably tried just the shift+1 which doesn't work in my game also(some other numbers also don't work depending on the factions that appear in the game).

I didn't remove the default command line -strictserver, though i don't know if this affects it in any way. And I don't know of anything else that could change the way it works. I would like to know if I'm just lucky http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wave.gif

The factions speaking Latin are Catholic, Orthodox speak Russian, and Muslims speak Arabic.

I can't remember all the Arabic commands but they are very accurate. There was a complete thread at the now defunct totalwarassembly with all the commands and tranlations.

Only problem is that the Turks also speak Arabic in this game. And let's not forget that Byzantines speak Russian. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif
